DirecTV Inc Complaint - Deceptive Poor Business Practice
Direct TV is one of the most deceptive companies I have ever dealt with and I feel compelled to publically inform others about such poor business practices. By all means avoid this company due to its deceptive policies of failing to provide its wriiten agreement before verbally consenting to its services. The company and its representatives failed to cover all terms and conditions of the contract particularly informing its subscribers of the enormous early termination fee in excess of $ 470. This early termination fee is excessive and clearly unreasonable by charging $470 -- this fee is more than any U.S. company has ever charged including cell phones etc.. My unfortunate matter with Direct TV began when I consented to the service without the assistance of the written contract because the company failed to provide such. The service I received and was charged for was not the service I consented to. I was also told the company needed a credit card / debit to bill for the equipment installation as a one-time fee. However, the company deceptively used the debit / credit card as a means of enrolling me into its autopay. This resulted in the company billing me through the debit card that was linked to my checking account. Unfortunately, this went on for a few cycles and my checking account became closed so the company was no longer able to bill via the debit card into my checking account. Then this resulted in the company paper billing me for the services. By that time the bill was $ 181. So, I called the company to cancel the service and I was told that I was no longer set up on autopay and that I would receive a final paper bill that I expected to receive in a few weeks. Well, unknown to me, the company re-billed my debit card 8 days later for $590 which went to my checking account that was re-opened. As a result, the company fradulently and deceptively took my money out of my checking account. Needless to say, this resulted in all types of problems like failure of my electric bill and rent payment clearing my checking account. Once I discovered the problem I immediately contacted Direct TV to get a refund of my money which they agreed to return if I re-enrolled with them. As a result, of trying to repay my rent and electric bill I thought that re-enrolling would expedite a return of my money that the Direct TV representative promised within 8 business days. Well, once again another deceptive, fradulent practice in which Direct TV now states that my account will be credited and there will be no return of my money. At this point, I have no other recourse but to report this to the FCC, Better Business Bureau and the Atty. General. In fact, I am also interested in retaining an attorney for consumer protection and to survey others who have fallen victim to Direct TV for the potential interest of establishing a class action law suit for such deceptive business practices. Also, the competitors of Direct TV should launch a campaign to drive the market away from such a decptive company in an attempt to protect the public. I hope anyone reading this will be willing to reply.
