Sears Complaint - Overcharged for Fridge Repair
819 E SIX FORKS ROAD, NORTH CAROLINA -- We were charged 298.50 to replace an overload relay in our fridge. The labor charge alone was $213. The entire service call from the time the tech arrived until he walked out the door was less than 30 minutes, so Sears is getting roughly $416 per hour for service, which is great work if you can get it.
When I called to complain, I was told Sears does not charge by the hour, but instead charges by the operation. This operation is charged at $213 whether it takes 5 minutes or 5 hours. I debated their billing approach with their manager and got nowhere. When I asked to speak with someone above her, I was told I would have to write a letter to Sears corporate. I selected Sears because I thought I could trust this company to be honest and fair, instead of dealing with an unknown.
