Spirit Airlines Complaint - Still dumbfounded. And we paid lot's hard earned money to be treated this way?
Resolution Update on 06/12/2010:
After one month of correspondence, Spirit customer service representatives returned my points and provided vouchers that will cover a portion of our lost expenses. Apologies were made for the treatment we rec'd. We will call it resolved only because we need to move on.
DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- My sister and I arrived at the airport 50 minutes before our scheduled domestic flight with boarding passes and seat assignments in hand. Unfortunately also had a bag to check which we pre-payed an add'l $19.00. We were shocked to find over 250 people in line like cattle. When approaching the desk as time was running out (still 40 minutes until flight time) were told our flight was "full" and "closed." Subsequent treatment just got worse and worse. Should have heeded the warnings of several co-workers that Spirit was not a good choice. Were repeatedly berated by the "supervisor" who said "you were late and should have arrived 2-3 hours early." (That's almost as long as the flight! This is domestic and Spirit web site states 30-45 minutes with boarding pass). Wish I had seen this blog, as our 5 minutes too late cost us an additional 450.00 each to find alternate means to proceed with our pre-paid, hard-earned vacation. As a Spirit Master Card Holder I used 37,500 points (this was for "off-peak" and as a "privileged" member). Lost those, lost $17.00 + $19.00 + $450.00 for the replacement outgoing flight. Flight from Det to LV cost us each nearly $700.00 total. Spirit agents threatened that we could lose our return flight if we didn't get back in line. Shame on you Spirit for missing an easy, golden opportunity to bolster your image. Shame on you for ripping customers off and subsequently endangering your worker's future livelihood. And shame on you for placing your worker's in this crappy position every morning at 5:00 am. Bye, bye birdie. I will look elsewhere and advise everyone else to do the same.
