Ernie Palmer Toyota Complaint - Beware - 2010 Toyota Tundra

Review by lovely001 on 2010-05-13
FLORIDA -- Me and my mother recently purchased a 2010 Toyota Tundra from Ernie Palmer. I drove the vehicle for Quite a few weeks approximately 4 and after the 4rth week was called and told I would have to put down 2,000 more dollars and trade in my impala. I still was not guaranteed financing, however I decided this was a little too much for a 2010 Tundra that had over 5,000 miles on it that was considered new. We turned in the vehicle. Ernie Palmer kept 1400 dollars of the 2,000 I put down on our vehicle. I was told it was for mileage, however I feel like this was not my fault that I was not financed. I consulted with a few other dealerships and as I thought this is not my fault and I was told that I am supposed to get a full refund. I am now contacting agencies. I have tried contacting individuals there and no luck.

This sounds pretty shady to me....please come back and let us know what you find out. I can't imagine a dealership letting a customer drive a vehicle for an entire month without being approved for financing.

Who was the vehicle insured by during this time? Did you sign anything saying you agreed to be charged for mileage if the financing didn't work out?

This is shady, but not uncommon. A scenario like this is a very good reason why a consumer should have financing approved prior to visiting a dealership, or to refuse to take a vehicle until the dealership can prove financing has been secured. As a consumer, part of the responsibility is yours for failing to have approved financing, but I have heard of these types of issues numerous times. If you return the vehicle, the dealership can charge you for mileage, but it needs to be at a reasonable rate (and I don't know what that is).
