Payless Car Rental - Montreal airport - at Wyndham Hotel Complaint - We know you have a reservation. But your car's not here. Too bad for you. - Car rental

Complaint
Review by michaelnyc on 2010-05-23
DORVAL -- Quick version:

Payless didn't have a car for me, even though I had a confirmed reservation.

I was told another customer was driving "my" car back in about half an hour.

Best of all, the slob in jeans and a t-shirt at the Payless counter told me I would "have to wait like everyone else".

Would that kind of treatment make you happy after spending four hours in transit?

My warning to travelers: Stick with the reputable car-rental companies on-site at Montreal's airport. I've never had a problem with any of them. Payless - which is located inside a Wyndham hotel inside the airport complex - has a terrible reputation, which it seems to deserve.

Unfortunately, these things happen...it's possible the person with "your" car had something happen that caused them to be late.

I bet you'd have never wrote a review about the "slob in jeans and t-shirt" had everything gone smoothly for you. It always amazes me how people are so selfish...and get so angry over the smallest things.

I can't show up to work in a t-shirt and Jeans, and I'm a serviceman! Someone at a front desk should show a little pride in their appearance. And what is the point of reserving a car beforehand, if you have to wait in line with the walk-ons?

Now, car rental places have a limited amount of rentals. If a customer is late, and the site doesn't have another car, tough break. It's commerce. You buy and maintain a certain amount of vehicles depending on what the demand is. Being told to wait can and does happen. It's a simple fact of life, sh*t happens. There really isn't enough info here to take any sides. But assuming the OP is abusive and selfish with this scant info, is equally wrong.

@Op + Idontthinkso I know a lot of places where T-shirt and Jeans are the dress code. A lot of places you wouldn't expect to have that sort of dress code do, it makes your customers feel a little more comfortable and relaxed.(according to them)

Just Cause: In this case, his appearance was completely relevant. I don't think minimal expectations around service and standards equal selfishness.

The office was a mess. The guy was a mess. And the situation was a mess. When it comes to confirmed reservations, "these things happen" isn't a valid excuse, as far as I'm concerned. This location, as IDontThinkSo pointed out, isn't running its business appropriately.

For the record, when I returned to Enterprise inside the airport - where I usually rent - the customer-service guys were dressed in suits and ties, the spotless cars were lined up and waiting, and I was sent off with a smile - after one of the guys loaded my bags.

Do you honestly think that insulting the employee is going to make them want to help you?

There was nothing you could do but wait for the car to be returned. I guess the way he said it to you, is what made you angry.

You're a New Yorker, it takes a lot more then that to annoy us!

The car rental desks at the Montreal airport are all thieves: Hertz, Avis all. They will not give you the price the rental company quoted you if you called their main reservation number. They will also try to get you on the gas on return, overcharge you by any means they can.. Try a different location..city!!
