Best Buy Complaint - They should be called the Incompetent Squad instead of the Geek Squad
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA -- I previously purchased a DELL laptop from Best Buy and was stupid enough to buy a two year warranty from Best Buy that covers any damages or malfunctions in the laptop.
Last month the Ethernet/LAN port started losing Internet connection when the cable was touched. I called the so called "Geek Squad" which from now on I will call the Incompetent Squad (IS) and described the problem. The solution was clear from the beginning the Ethernet port had to be changed.
I took the laptop to Best Buy in Emeryville and wrote down the problem on their application form and confirmed with the agent that the solution would require changing the Ethernet port. The IS (Incompetent Squad) told me that it would take 3 weeks to fix the problem cause they had to send the laptop to LA to get the Ethernet port changed.
3 weeks later I receive a call from the IS telling me that they upgraded the BIOS on my laptop and that the Ethernet port is now working fine. I told the guy on the phone that this doesn't make any sense... How does updating the BIOS fix a loose Ethernet port. He assured me that the problem was fixed and that the Incompetent Squad tested the laptop and they are 100% sure that it works fine. I told the guy calling that I am not convinced and that I don't want to drive all the way down to Emeryville to find that the problem wasn't fixed. The Incompetent Squad agent assured me that the problem has been fixed.
Guess what??? I drive to Emeryville and immediately discover that the problem wasn't fixed and that the laptop was basically lying there in their warehouse doing nothing for 3 weeks. What the incompetent squad didn't know is that I am a Computer Science Engineer and all their cheap tactics of ripping customers off by saying things like "We updated the BIOS" to make it look like they actually worked on the laptop when they didn't even touch it for 3 weeks will not work on me.
Imagine taking your car to a mechanic to fix something. The mechanic asks you to leave the car for 3 weeks. The mechanic calls you after 3 weeks to tell you that the car is ready and its time for you to pay. You go to the mechanic and realize that he didn't touch the car for 3 weeks and now wants you to pay him for a service he didn't do.
End result is that the Incompetent Geek Squad is a big huge rip off.
