Barcelo Puerto Plata Complaint - Deceitful Advertising

Review by DN1 on 2010-06-02
The hotel Barcelo Puerto Plata ( unfortunately contains deceitful and incomplete information posted on their website. Below are a few major issues encountered with the ‘Barceló All-Inclusive‘ program offered at the hotel:
- All meals in the 8 restaurants: The website neglects to clarify that only one restaurant is open each evening. The hotel personnel at the reservation desk indicated that although the website includes 8 restaurants, this does not mean that all restaurants must be open on a daily basis! In addition, there is only one restaurant building that houses all of the 8 restaurants. Therefore, there is only one restaurant in the hotel! More importantly, the food was very repeated and rotated from the evening meal to the morning breakfast! Finally, we were unable to find all of the 8 restaurants pictured in the website. Do these restaurants really exist??
- All national drinks in 8 restaurants and 3 bars: In comparison to other nearby hotels, the drinks were extremely ‘watered-down’; this included drinks ‘on the rocks’. I have had better wine from bottles that cost less than $3 US dollars!!
- Water sports equipment for snorkelling, diving information, aerobics, windsurfing, kayaking and hoobiwave: The guest must pay for certain non-motorized water sports $10 US dollars for certain non-motorized : windsurfing, kayaking and hoobiwave.
- Horse riding: The first half-hour of the horseback ride is included in the all-inclusive package but, the guest must pay for the additional 2 ½ hours of the horse ride. The total price for the ride is $50 US dollars.

Another major issue: the hotel staff behaved as if providing service to the guests’ was an ordeal. The poor service made the guests feel as if you were being a nuisance to the staff!

Thankfully, my travel agent was able to cancel my 6 night reservation after only 1 day and transfer me to another hotel.

Very suprised to hear this, especially in todays economy.
Went to a all-inclusive in Cancun last year, unbelievable great.

But to the point of my post...

You must feel very good that you used a real travel agent, who was able to extract you from that situation.

Had you used Pricline, Orbitz, Expedia, etc, etc, you probably would had to spend six nights there!
