Trugreen lawn care of western NY Complaint - Unwanted lawn treatment

Review by ghthomas524 on 2010-06-04
ORCHARD PARK, NEW YORK -- This is a complaint about Trugreen lawn care of western NY. I had their service for 2009 (paid in advance) and was not happy. I received 2 mailings from them during the winter to renew their service. I did not respond to either. Then in LATE May of 2010 I found a bill on my door for lawn service. I immediately called and stated I did not want their service and did not renew. I was told it was renewed automatically. I have had 3 calls from different employees trying to convince me to sign up.
I have been billed for service I did not want or need. Now they billed me for a service they claim I received in October of 2009.How come it took 7 months to decide I owed them after I had paid for service in advance?
I tried to look them up at the better business bureau--they are NOT a member. I think I know why. Folks do not do business with these people!

Business's pay to get a BBB sticker and into their BBB little catalog. BBB means nothing.

What does your contract say about automatic renewal? Do you have to cancel in writing by sending it in writing, by registered signed return receipt mail? I think at this point you need to do it in writing, a verbal cancellation is not working, unless they gave you a confirmation cancellation number that you can throw back at them.

Good luck.

I don't know about NY, but in Ok. TruGreen is listed as an A+ company and has been since 1998. In the last 36 months, the BBB has recieved 4 complaints on
truGreen and all but 1 have been resolved. As for renewal, it works like your cell phone contract. Once you sign up, your contract auto renews untill you call in to cancel service. My advise is call them, cancel service and if they won't work with you on your complaints, file with BBB. Even if they arn't listed in Ny. the BBB can get involved in arbitration.
