Banfield Vet hospital Complaint - Customer complaint - pet hospital

Review by Pink33 on 2010-06-05
ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA -- I would not recommend anyone to bring there pet to Petsmart / Banfield for an examination this is like buying a car. I brought my pet in and the bill started at 700.00 and then the pet nurse (which they are not nurses) came in and said well this is a staring place ? .... What ? they came back in and the price was lower.... I still wasn't going to pay and they went out came back in a third time with another quote ? Curious to see what would happen next, I refused again and they came back in and said well we need to do this before you leave it was $72.00. Its very unfortunate that you come in this place hoping to have professionals help you with something you love dearly your pet and they take advantage of you because your pet is sick and you just want it to get well and they are selling you !!!!! trying to see what you will pay !!! I hate they are located in pets mart but I will not be back to either store or business.

What does your bill say? What was the $700.00 for? And yes, they are considered pet nurses. Nurses aren't just for humans anymore. That's what I am called at my animal hospital, a pet nurse, cause we do it all. What was the doctor's diagnosis? You say they wanted to take advantage of you, but you never say what was wrong with your pet, or even what your pet is.

Do you have any friends with pets, that can recommend a vet they use? Word of mouth is a great thing when it comes to good animal hospitals.

When I read this complaint earlier in the day, the complaint stated the hospital was in New Bern. Now, it says Asheville. Asheville and New Bern are about 310 miles apart. (you have the zip code wrong for Asheville- perhaps that's just a typo) I do agree with Skye. Word of mouth is a great way to find a good vet!

I used Banfield when I got my first cat. Then I moved and my neighbors recommended a vet who was a few blocks away. I have found this vet much more caring and actually cheaper than Banfield was. I got suckered into the whole "Pet Insurance Plan" with Banfield. They said without it It would have cost my $800 to get my first cat fixed and declawed. My current vet did both to my second cat for around $280.

I would fully agree with the others to talk to friends./family /neighbors and find a good local vet. Banfield is becoming like the pepboys of the vet world.

Looks like I misread the Banfield comment about New Bern. My apologizes.
(the zip for Asheville is still way off, but again, probably just a typo)
I do hope the OP finds a good vet!

You said the "Starting bill" was 700 but you didn't say... What services you were asking for, nor did you say what species your pet was.

In fact most people don't call their pet "my pet" they say "my cat" or "my dog" or "my giraffe". It's a bit unusual to leave the species out since that in itself can really affect the bill.

And of course what service you get affects the bill too.

I mean a general house cat initial checkup wouldn't be $700. But if you were treating kitty for cancer or for kidney failure, it would indeed be expensive.

Or say your pet was a tiger on a leash, i wouldn't be one bit surprised if the initial checkup was $700.

So, what services were you asking for. What species was your pet.
