BURLINGAME, CALIFORNIA -- Do Not Rent From This Place. They are also known as ACE Car Rental, and Blue Oval Car Rental.

This is my story:.

*The shuttle took 1hr to pick me up at San Francisco Airport.

*I made a reservation for a car; when I went to pick it up they told me that I had to pay and extra $20 for emergency road assistance - I told them that I didn't need that and they refused to rent me the car. When I was then leaving, the clerk came up to me and told me that they will give the original price - wow.

*Next, I'm on the road and it starts to rain; I found that the wipers were really bad, I couldn't see much and had to get out of the road and wait for it to stop raining.

*Finally, they charged me $250 as a deposit for the car, and 4 weeks later they have not refunded it. When I returned the car, the clerk told me that the $250 had been put back in my credit card. It was a lie.

*I'm calling them everyday to get my money back, they always tell me to call a corporate number where an answer machine picks up and tells you to call again later.

*DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PEOPLE. You will loose time, money, happiness, and maybe your life.

Call your credit card company, tell them that they will not refund the money - PROBLEM SOLVED

Sounds like you used a debit card since they took a $250 deposit. The $20 extra the clerk told you about was to try and get himself/herself a commission. When you refused they gave you the car anyway. Many agents try and strong arm you like this.

After I had an unfavorable experience with one of these no-name local car rental companies in Fort Lauderdale, FL a couple of years ago, I vowed never to use any of them again. The money you save by using these companies is not worth the aggravation!

My problem involves the fact that I was given a car which had a dent on the front fender. I wanted to refuse the car, but they told me that this was the only car that they had available. I reluctantly agreed to take the car, but I told them to note the damage on the rental agreement, which they did. When I returned the car, they tried to say that when they rented the car to me, the damage on the fender was less severe than when I returned it! They didn't care that they had noted the extent of the damage on the rental agreement... they tried to nail me for the "additional damage". I protested this obvious shakedown, but they still maintained that I was responsible. I called the Broward County Sheriff's Office, who sent a deputy, but he was reluctant to file a report. He said that this was a "civil matter", but I told him that I wanted to file a fraud complaint. Only after I told the deputy that by brother was involved in county politics and was friends with Broward County Sheriff Lamberti, did he agree to take my report. Just as the deputy was about to take my report, the clerk behind the counter told me that they would waive any charges for the "additional damage". I told him to put it in writing, as I no longer trusted him.

After this experience I vowed never to deal with any no-name local car rental companies again.

I should have took the reviews that were already posted more seriously than I did. Lesson to be learned! I will never, ever rent from these people again(ACE/Blue Oval in Burlingame). The counter service was kinda like whatever, it was either attitude or just pure arrogance in the air. The same problem that the other person gave in their review happened to me. I am STILL WAITING for my deposit to get back into to my checking account. Gee whiz! It should not take that many days to refund customer's deposits back into their accounts. Ace gets their money just as soon as they swipe your card. I won't even go into their customer service dept. (714) 855-2555. You will be better off renting from top agencies like Budget/Hertz/Enterprise. Good luck!

NEVER use a debit card to rent a car. ALWAYS use a credit card, and if there is a problem, dispute the charge. I have rented cars HUNDREDS of times and know this to be true. If you don't have a credit card, GET one.
