Naples Hospital Informative - Social Worker

Review by Dixon-Illinois on 2004-12-21
NAPLES, FLORIDA -- My mother recently broke both arms and was being cared for in Naples, Florida at the community hospital. The hospital social worker Darlene, telephoned me in Illinois, where I reside telling me I needed to figure out what to do with my mother because she was being released this morning, tuesday. Well my sister and I had been speaking many times daily to the nurse and other staff for the release day to coordinate a flight to Illinois. As far as we knew my mother was not to be released for another week, due to JUST having surgery on her arm, where a metal splint was put in. They had also been waiting on a special made brace that hadn't arrived yet. I hung up and called my mothers room to see what was really going on. She was in tears because the social worker had said a few rude words to her and said she needed to go. The doctor supposedly told Darlene, the social worker, my mom didn't need the brace. Well all in all after many calls and and a rather lenghty discussion to Darlene, by my sister, my mother was staying for another two days. She WAS suppose to be waiting on the special brace and Darlene, who bedside manners are lacking, was NOT to step foot inside my mothers room again for the duration of her stay. The nursing staff were very helpful and accomodating. I can see that many insurance companies have the three days and out policy, but there has to be special circumstances. Darlene on the other hand should find a job that doesnt need a heart.
