McAfee Complaint - Do NOT trust McAfee! - anti-virus

anti-virus - Complaint
Review by 4runner4fun on 2010-06-11
This is an e-mail exchange that I have copied and pasted to show how McAfee treats their customers as well as the dangers of their product;

One month extra for a $400.00 bill?! You have to be kidding? I have already installed a new Virus/spyware program with a two year subscription which was included in the $400.00 charge. It took the technician 3 1/2 hours to remove all of the junk that McAfee let through. I scanned this computer several times with your product and it showed NOTHING! Why would I ever use McAfee again?! I will be posting both the problem and your response everywhere I can. That is an absolute insult. For all I know my credit card information and everything else may be compromised and you won't cover even the cost of the repair! I will tell everyone I know about this and report it to the Better Business Bureau!

Thanks for nothing!

Thank you for contacting McAfee Consumer Support.

We have recently opened a Service Request for support based on the information you provided us at our support website. Below you will find the details of this request for your reference.

- Order #:
- Service Request #: 516336664
- Created Date: 06/10/2010 15:51:12
- Description: I have had McAfee security center on my computer without any interruption, when all of a sudden the computer was taken over by an intruder. I ran several scans with nothing showing up. My passwords were being typed in whenever I tried to type anything by an external entity and programs were opening and closing. It just cost me $400.00 to have almost 140 viruses and spyware removed from the computer. Will you pay for that since obviously your software didn't protect my computer
Let me know ASAP.

How did you load on 140 viruses onto your computer? What were you downloading?
Posted by 4runner4fun on 2010-06-13:
That is a very good question, as this computer is very rarely used. I had an unsuccessful eye surgery that left me almost blind, so the only computer I was able to use is a laptop in order to get the screen close enough and it is a Macbook Pro. The computer with all the viruses is a desktop Dell XPS. I use it more for backup?
I was just able to get back on it after a second eye surgery and that was what I found!

Any possibility that anyone else was using your computer?
Posted by Doctor Charlie on 2010-06-13:
Or, maybe the company that claimed there were 140 viruses on it - ripped you off?
Posted by 4runner4fun on 2010-06-16:
The only one would be my 23 year old son and he has his own computer. I downloaded a free program and it showed 140 viruses before getting it repaired. One of the viruses couldn't be removed with the software without damaging the operating system. Anyway it works great again and for the money they will repair it anytime in the next two years.
