Disneyland (California) Complaint - A "World of Color?" We wouldn't know.

Complaint
Review by YL Girl on 2010-06-14
My husband and I thought that it would be a great date night for our 18th anniversary to go and see the opening of the new show at California Adventure, "A World of Color." We knew that the park would get crazy for it but we made sure to look online to see if there were any restrictions. It seemed to be open to the public so we showed up several hours early and with great expectations. What we did not know was that Disney decided to hand out "Fastpasses" for the event. They handed them out as soon as the park opened so of course there were none left in the afternoon. The whole entire front area was roped off and we were told that were not allowed to watch the show from there unless we had a pass. We were given the option to stand in the back and view it that way. The cast member said that they decided to use the fast passes to keep it "more fair." This was supposed to be more "fair?" How is it fair when we did not even know that they had fastpasses and that we had to arrive at 8:00 AM to get one? There were so many irate customers. I have never seen so many at Disney in one day. We spoke with guest relations and they tried to sell us a "picnic lunch" that came with fast passes. Why would we want a picnic at 9 PM? Besides, it was supposed to be a free show.

I am really upset about this and my husband has now vowed to ban Disney for 10 years. So basically, Disney is losing thousands of dollars from our family alone.

The thing is, I don't know how popular these new Disney shows are. I would assume popular enough for someone to stand in line at the door for hours on end. If this were the case then who's to say a line wouldn't have formed starting at 8am? Then you'd be upset that the line was already formed and you weren't in the first X amount of people the seating would allow. Same difference. I wouldn't come late and expect to get into anything these days.

First time going to a busy theme park?

Were you actually guests of the park or do you live nearby and decided to go thinking it was open to the public?

I had the exact same terrible experience yesterday! The website does not indicate that you need a Fastpass to watch the show, and when I bought my ticket (the 3-day CA park hopper) the castmember working their never stated I would not be able to watch the show! I later found out all the tickets were gone by 11 am. The whole thing was just ridiculous. California Adventure is just a terribly designed park.

We researched the show online since we are very well aware of how popular the opening weekends are for anything at Disney. We were even sent an special magazine for pass holders and we did not see anything about the Fastpass requirement. So we showed up several hours early for the show, expecting to wait and not necessarily be in the best position to watch it. The worst part was being told that the ONLY place we could watch it was going to be in the back, behind the projection, since we did not have the Fastpasses.

If we would have known about the Fastpass requirement we could have gone by the park early and waited for them. The fact that they said they were trying to keep things "fair" and we did not even have the option to wait earlier is what upsets us so much.
