I purchased my Windstar new, ad have always maintained it imaculately and in the timely manner specifiede by the dealers manual. In 2007, my transmission broke down at a stop sign after trying to accelerate. I had to drive it backward to my home and call a tow. At this time it had less than 30,000 miles. The Ford dealer STATED IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I HAD TO PAY THE FULL EXPENSE FOR HAVING IT FIXED. Almost $5,000! I received a 3 year warranty with the new transmission.
This year, with under 70,000 miles, the same thing happened to me on a cross country trip. Transmission died. Again had, before we left on our trip, taken it into the dealership to have it maintained before we set out on our trip. They assured us it was "good to go". The cost for this service was $4,000.
1500 miloes into our trip the tranny burned out. OUCH!! Again took it into the, towed actually, the nearest Ford dealership to find that our warranty had expired 6 mos prior. EXPENSE WAS OUR RESPONSIBILITY, AGAIN!!
The cost this time $3,400.
Now, that is 3 transmissions in less than 80,000 miles. Rediculous!! What I suggest is NEVER BUY A FORD!! They do not stand by their product and do not give a s*** about the consumer.
