ARF / Hirecar.co.nz Complaint - Horrible Customer service

ARF Car rental agency located in New Zealand provides discount car rental services for both the North and South Island. My advice is to steer clear of this company. Although they promise excellent value for your money their customer service is the worst I have every experienced. To save on cost ARF does not have a depot based at the airport, instead they will pick you up and (supposedly) drop you off at the airport. My girlfriend and I rented one of their cars, via the Internet, to use while on vacation in the south Island. ARF car rental did not pick us up at the airport until we called to remind them of our booking. One and half hours later we finally rolled into the car depot. This was also the case when we dropped the car off at the depot. Instead of being ferried back to the airport we were told we had to go into the centre of Christchurch and hire another bus to get us to the airport (we came close to missing our flight). What ARF does is to hire a local car depot to take care of some of their administration while they handle the booking. This will result in a lower hire price for your car but it sacrifices the customer service since the depot can always pass the blame to ARF and vice versa. When we called to complain they offered nothing for our trouble, except an insincere apology from a guy named Murray. In the end we learned that you should always stay with a well-established car company.
