COVA Complaint - Unqualifyed and Misleading Ambulance Service
ALBION ORLEANS COUNTY, NEW YORK -- I had a gall bladder attack, I was previously diagnosed as having a "twisted gallbadder".. Cova was called to transport me 10 miles to the hospital.. A 2 person team arrived.. who decided that because I am female, I had to be considered as a possible heart attack..even though I insisted to them it was my gallbladder. I was placed in the ambulance, the "person" tried but was unable to start an IV. I was transported 1 1/2 miles to a parking lot, where a medic met us who was qualified to treat "a heart attack"..I was then taken the last 8 1/2 miles to the hospital..(was my gallbladder after all).. I have since been billed by 2 ambulance services...more than $1700.00!! for a 10 mile ride.. I have no insurance..COVA advertises themselves as a "volunteer service" and asks for donations and holds fundraisers... in reality they are "mostly paid employees".. I paid each of the two services what Medicare would have paid them.. I refuse to pay anymore..I really feel that COVA has no business offering a service which they are unable to actually provide and then charge you for services they failed to provide. COVA continues to send me bills and letters threatening to sue and ruin my credit.. I have taken a full year but have paid all doctors, tests done, and the hospital bill in full. The 2nd ambulance service did accept my payment to them. Only COVA (which stands for Central Orleans Volunteer Ambulance) continues to be unhappy. They have since dropped the words from their business name and are now known just as COVA.. but continue to pretend to be volunteers...I feel they are probably breaking the law.. seems like this is fraud... I also wonder about their tax status..
