Penobscot Community Dental Clinic Complaint - Unprofessional Dental Clinic
BANGOR, MAINE -- I moved from Norridgewock to Bangor Maine and that meant changing doctors and dentists etc. I changed to Penobscot Dental as well as Penobscot's other medical offices for pediatricians and my medical doctor. I had been going for three years or more at the time of this incident without any issues. When I signed my sons up for their dentist, I made sure that we all had the same one and also that one particular dentist was not their dentist as he was the dentist from Norridgewock and we had had really bad experiences with him. He would complain to his assistant the entire time he was with my sons about his job and how he was angry and upset at certain things. My older son has a phobia of dentists and he was aware of this. If someone is having anxiety and they are given novacaine, it does not take well if they are too upset. He gave my son 4 shots in the mouth to try to numb things all the while complaining to his assistant about his life and getting very upset with my son. Forcing him to just deal with it and calm down. My son tried telling him he could still feel things. Of course he blew him off being "just a kid". So needless to say.. I did not want the same dentist since I had other choices at the new place. I specifically put in his record to only schedule him with his dentist and any time he could not see him, to call and reschedule with me. That is reasonable since we all tend to get more comfortable with one doctor. We showed up for an appointment one afternoon for a filling for my oldest son again. After we were taken back through the doors into the exam area, we were informed last minute " oh by the way, your doctor can't be here today so Dr. S---g will be taking care of you." Guess who the Doctor was? Yep.. the very dentist we had specifically changed from with notes in his file about why we changed. I NICELY stated that it was not ok. That we would reschedule. The dental assistant asked why we did not like or want this dentist to do the work. I explained in short that we had a bad experience with him and that I had taken the time to make the changes based on those reasons and they were supposed to be in his file so this did not happen. Nicely I remind you I stated all this. You would think that would have been the end. She insisted on knowing or hearing more. So she asked me again.. well just what exactly don't you like about him? Pressuring and pushing, I still in a calm voice with nobody else around but she, myself and my son, said very quietly that he was kind of an ass to my son.. so I really do not want to use him any more. THAT WAS IT FOLKS!! They took me back in waiting area, gave me a diff. dentist that was great with kids supposedly, and 30 minutes later saw my son for his appt. Things went fine. WE left. About two weeks later I get a letter stating that due to my inappropriate behavior we were being dropped as patients from this clinic. I thought wow.. it doesn't take much to upset them. That was hardly a reason to drop us and most of it was their own doing by making the mistake of not reading his file to see it was not ok to put this dentist on my sons case that day. So a couple months or so went by, I needed to see my medical doctor who is also affiliated with Penobscot facilities. They had to call me back because I had been taken out of her patient files. This was also done improperly because the two are not related offices and my doctor had to agree to this which she did not. It was at this time that I found out about the report that had been turned in against me at the dentist clinic. My doctor poked around so I would not know what she was trying to find out..which was the truth about what happened that day at the dental office. After she realized and pretty much knew that was not who I was since she and I saw one another ALOT, she told me there was a pretty horrible report out there on me. It stated that I made racist remarks, yelled, screamed, swore while at the appointment that day. Now.. if I had.. don't you think there would be people in the waiting area and in the office area that make appts. that would have heard all this since it was just a wall apart between us? Do you think they would have rescheduled me with a diff. dentist within a half hour if we were that horrible that day? I believe most places would escort you out of the bldg. and rightfully so. So, since learning all this through my medical doctor I have tried to contact the office managers to resolve this and find out why I was not asked about the incident that day to confirm the validity of the report turned in against me. I should have been notified of it and what it accused me of. I never was. Very unprofessional. I even had the receptionist at the dental clinic verify that I did no such things that day. She was right there around the corner and I spoke to her to make the new appt. that same day with the new dentist and I was completely calm and polite. I have never had anything like this happen and I am not the kind of person to do such things. I am a college student in the degree program for Law/Justice and hold a standing on the Dean's list. I certainly hope I am not prejudice to other races or I am in for a long battle in this profession.
