Harley Davidson Complaint - Bad flywheels - 88 inch twin cam motor

Review by ac714 on 2010-06-22
MILLWALKEE, WISCONSIN -- I own a 2000FLHTCI and the flywheels I found out are a press fit and have a tendency to slip and become unbalanced. I understand this is a ongoing issue. I have only 30,ooo miles on the bike itself and now I need to have my engine rebuilt. You pay a lot of money for these bikes and they fall apart so early in there life. I called and talked to a dealer and found out that Harley Davidson has a rebuild program, it will cost me around $4,000 to have the engine pulled out by a certified dealer and sent to Harley Davidson rebuilt and sent back to the dealer, then reinstalled. I did ask the dealer and I also called the Harley Davidson factory itself and asked about the flywheels being tig welds to prevent them from slipping again and was told that they will not weld them. I can get a 1 year warranty unlimited mileage. What good it that if the problem is not fixed. So what we are looking at is after 1 year the problem happens again I am stuck paying another $4,000 for another engine.
