Tribute Mastercard Complaint - Tribute Mastercard Rip-Off
In February 2008 I was notified by Tribute Mastercard that they would begin charging a monthly service charge of ten dollars. The "service" fee would begin in May of 2008. They provided an opt-out number in their letter. I called the 800 number they provided and cancelled the card. In May of 2008, I received a bill from Tribute Mastercard for ten dollars. I called the company and told them that I had cancelled the card in February. They said they had no record of my cancellation. I told them I was not responsible for the incompetence of their employees and that I would not pay the bill. For the next 18 months I wrote the company; called them and sent e-mails trying to resolve the issue. I never received a response from the company. This year they turned the debt over to a collection agency. My ten dollar service fee is now almost 300 dollars and appears on my credit report. When did credit card companies become thieves and extortionists? Did anybody else get caught up in this scam? I have filed a complaint with the Attorney General of Kansas. Has a class-action been filed in this matter?
