Dairy producers Informative - Milk expiration dates

Review by kshopp on 2010-06-22
My concern is that milk is beginning to sour 2-3 days before the expiration date. The date should be changed to reflect the shorter shelf (refridgerator)life that it actually has. I have found this to be true in different areas and brands. Children often pour milk in cereal and even borderline sour milk can have deleterious effects without parents knowing a possible cause of a childs upset stomach.

You may want to check the temperature in your fridge, perhaps it's not cold enough or the door is being left open too long and too often.

Or they are storing the milk on the shelves of the door itself.

It depends how fast you use the milk too. The date is just a general thing.

May also be that the store is not keeping the milk cold enough too.

The dates a milk cartons only refer to unopened products. Once opened, the date becomes irrelevant. Opened milk should last 5-7 days in the fridge if stored properly at or below 40 degrees.
