DirecTV Inc Complaint - Local Stations
A year or so ago I decided to try Direct TV. Before I decided to go with Direct TV, I specified to the customer service representative that I wanted local stations. I told them, at that time, that if I couldn't have local stations, I wouldn't sign a contract with them. The representative told me at that time local stations would be on my plan. So, at the time, I agreed to have a technician set up Direct TV. WHEN the technician came to my house, before he set up my system, I asked him if local stations were included in my plan. He said, if the customer service representative told you that they were included, then they will be. I said, alright...set up my system. When the system was set up, I noticed that I didn't receive my local stations. (This may not be a big deal to some people, but at that time I had a handicapped sister living with me and she couldn't figure out how to go from direct TV and antenna). I called Direct TV and notified them that these stations weren't included and they said that they would have to apply for them. I asked them why they didn't tell me that before they set up my account. OF course, that representative said they were sorry and can't be responsible for what someone else told me. They would apply. I told them at that time to apply and if it weren't approved, that I would disconnect my account, BUT would not pay a disconnect charge because I was lied to. SIX weeks later, no approval. I called again to disconnect. That representative said he would try again and it would take six weeks. I agreed to wait, but told him that I would not pay a disconnect if it weren't approved. That time, one channel was approved. This rocked on several times. They gave me some pay channels for free while I waited the last time. When I finally got tired of the game they were playing, I disconnected Direct TV and went to Dish Network. Of course, this game rocked on for about a year. They wanted to charge me a disconnect fee when I disconnected of $250. I told them at that time that I would NOT pay a fee because I was purposedly lied to at initial sign up and was ran through a "process" which never came to me getting locals. SO...they charged me anyway. It's now on my credit report. OF course, I have disputed it, but it still shows on there.
