Lost Horse Lodge Complaint - Lost Horse Lodge Dining in MT a disappointment

Review by GDesro on 2010-06-22
HAMILTON, MT -- I just wanted to make you all aware of our recent visit to the Lost
Horse Lodge in Hamilton, Montana for dinner. We had my brother and his wife up from Washington. We have stayed in the honeymoon suite and have frequented the lodge for dinner. We decided to drive to the lodge for dinner from our home in Stevensville. All the way talking about how wonderful our experiences have been with
them. When we arrived, we all ordered a drink and my sister in law, being
pregnant, ordered a glass of milk. The drinks came and she took a drink of the milk and it was sour! Not just a little sour but terrible! My sister in law ran to the restroom and was terribly sick. We told the waiter and they checked on the milk and it was outdated. We then ordered dinner and my brother ordered the most expensive steak on the menu, which was $23.00. When the steak came, it had 5 dried up asparagus slices, a small potato and the steak had absolutely no flavor and was so full of fat that he only got about 6 pieces of meat out of it. We don't usually make mountains out of molehills but this was ridiculous. We spoke with our waiter and he also said that the steak wasn't very good and said he would go talk to the manager. He came back and said that they would give us $8.00 off of the $23.00 meal. Are you kidding me? The manager didn't get up to come talk with us or even apologize for the milk. So because there was a wedding, customers take the back seat? I am not sure how a business can keep a respectful name by treating customers this way. I was thoroughly disappointed, as was my entire family. The meal was ruined and we had to stop at Subway on the way home. I am sad to say that I will not be back to Lost Horse Lodge. I will also not make any referrals any longer.

"they checked on the milk and it was outdated. We then ordered dinner"

That's all I needed.

The Lodge did email back and offer to buy us dinner if we ever decided to come back. Sadly, the damage had been done and my brother and sister in law will not go back. We had many great times at the Lodge and are sad to have it come to this.

I think its sad you are letting one incident cloud your judgment. they are making an effort and buying you dinner. most places would not do that.

I agree with andbran. While it was not very professional of the manager to hide from you, they are trying to make it right. From what you say, this is an isolated incident. You should reconsider.

When a restaurant has milk that is outdated, the staff admits that a wedding is more important, they didn't make it right while I was there, although I agree that I normally would "try again" it is my preference to not return. The last time we went we also had dinner rolls and a bowl of salad with our meal. After all, the dinner was $23.00. This time, I was not impressed. I may wait a while and return with my husband to see if chages were made but I will not bring anyone with us. Another thing I never mentioned was I asked for a slice of lime. When the waiter returned, he brought it to me in his hand! Just not my cup of tea. There are many other places to eat that are cheaper and care a bit more about their customers. I do not accpect them to buy us another meal. Of course the owner doesn't want to lose a customer. But, will she be the one there the next time we go to eat? Probably not.

I think this site is wonderful allowing people to makes suggestions about experiences they have had. This experience may be isolated but I think it is something people should consider while going to this Lodge. You may have a great experience and I hope you do. Just be aware...

When you saw that the food was subpar, did you eat it, or did you ask the waiter to take it back? If you brought your concerns to the waiter's attention, but ate it anyway, you shouldn't get your whole tab comped.

If you haven't seen the programs on television about people that have staff take back food, you really should watch it! We also did not want our money back or a free meal if you haven't read that. I only wanted them to be aware of this the next time and for people going there to also be aware. If I was out for a free meal, I would have taken them up on it.

though I admit I'm surprised you still ate there if they served spoiled milk...

Yes, it was hard to continue with dinner after the milk issue but we live an hour and a half from this Lodge and because we had such great dinners in the past, we hoped that the milk wasn't a clue as to what was coming. Glad everyone has so many comments on this topic but I don't feel the need to continue on about it. Just a great site to let people know of different experiences.
