Community Hospital North-Sara Koerwitz,MD Complaint - Community Hospital North-Dr. Koerwitz*Prejudice* *SUCKS**HORRIBLE DR!!!
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA -- In March of this year, I fell in paint stripper at work. I broke my elbow and had horrible chemical burns on my left arm, chest, back and buttocks! I went to Community North's ER because I was in horrible pain 2 days after the fall. To make a long story short, I am a recovering addict. I have been clean for almost 13 years and credit most of my clean time with a miracle drug called Suboxone. However, I have found that telling ER physicians or any physician for that matter that you on on this prescription they automatically ASSUME you are a drug addict! This is EXACTLY what happened at Community North. I did not tell the doctor I was on this prescription because I knew what would happen. After insisting I take a pregnancy test and refusing treatment if I didn't(I was never really told why because I'm postmenopausal and knew I was pregnant)Dr. Koerwitz barged into my room and accused me of drug seeking behavior! She wanted to know why I hadn't told her I was on Suboxone and I explained that the reason I don't tell people is because of exactly what was happening now! She went on to accuse me of ONLY going to the ER for drugs (any drug addict knows you don't have to go to the ER to get drugs!)and that I was lying about my elbow being broken! She refused to give me pain medicine, with the exception of Aleve which I can buy at a drug store! Now keep in mind that Immediate Care and Wishard Hospital all diagnosed me with a broken elbow (radial head fracture)also, I had HUGE, ANGRY chemical burns on my arm, back, side and buttock along with a black and purple bruise on my left buttock the size of a small watermellon! Every page on my medical records she has written "drug seeking behavior", "demanding pain medicine". Not only does this doctor have no compassion and Zero bedside manor, I believe from the depths of my heart that I was denied pain medicine because of my past addiction! I understand that doctor's have to be careful of people that come to the ER asking for pain meds, but when I patient presents with HUGE, ANGRY, RED, SWOLLEN burns you would THINK that maybe this person might have a legitimate reason to be asking for pain medicine! This is clear discrimination no different than if she denied me treatment for the color of my skin or religious preference! I will NEVER go to Community North Hospital again and I will tell everyone that I can not to go there. I believe EVERYONE should be treated equally and not judged by their past behavior! I found it insulting and embarrasssing! This doctor has no business practicing medicine, EVER!!!! Oh and BTW, I went to Wishard Hospital the next day and they confirmed the burns and broken elbow and had NO PROBLEM providing me with pain relief!!!! Even if I was a raging drug addict (which I'm not), I should not have had to suffer!DON'T EVER GO TO COMMUNITY NORTH HOSPITAL!!!!!
