AmerenIP Informative - JUSTIFY THE BILL! - moving a gas meter

Review by volleyball10 on 2010-06-23
HILLSBORO, ILLINOIS -- I had contacted AmerenIP to inform them I'm building a deck, therefore a already exsisting gas meter needs to be moved less than 10feet, they in turned informed me that it was gonna be $750 to move the 30 year old meter. They will not justify this bill. They are not willing to put a digtal reader on the meter, they have a 5 foot walkspace about the deck to work in case of problems would ever arise but that isn't good enough. I have pictures that show several decks that the meter is enclosed with a deck over it, and they haven't had to pay no $750! I use the gas for my furnace and that is it, although I get charged for the meter every month rather I use it or not! You shouldn't have to pay for something that you don't use! AmerenIP is a corp. that is full of greed!!!!!! I can't wait for the govern. to allow other comp. to supply me with electric, then it will be GOODBYE AMEREN!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS UNJUST TO THE NORMAL WORKING PERSON! JUSTIFY THE BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Or don't charge! None gets pd. over 350 an hour! decks in the bigger cities and do the same thing I've done with my deck and get away with it! have pic to proof it!

First, this job probably entails moving piping in addition to the meter, so the charge may be appropriate. Second, if you have electrical service to your house, you can change to all-electric any time. You don't need some government approval to do this; simply call a heating and air contractor and tell them you want an all-electric furnace; not a huge deal. Once you have this completed, call the gas company and tell them you have converted to electricity and need to have the gas shut off. Warning: this may still require a meter to be moved, as I don't think any municipalities allow gas meters to be covered by any type of structure.
