Citi Mortgage Complaint - Worst customer service!!!!

Review by Josie76 on 2010-06-24
For the last two years I have had Citimortgage and have always paid my bill either online or over the phone on the due date. Last month I made a payment like always on line 5/18/2010 it cleared my account and then on 5/20/2010 I realized that another payment was taken out of my checking account. I called citimortgage and after speaking to many reps I was finally reassured that it would never happen again and that somehow I set up on Easy Pay and the submitted the cancellation on 5/22/2010 again was reassured it wouldn't happen again and they were even going to refund me the extra payment. I never received the refund, so I let it go figured it was OK since the payment was applied to the month of June and my next payment wouldn't be til July. Then to my surprise I was debited again directly from my checking on 6/21/2010, I called Citimortgage and no one could give me an answer an how this was possible. Every representative I spoke to was blaming my bank for the debits. I asked to speak to a manager and was just placed on hold and then the call would get disconnected. They keep telling me that I am not set up on easy pay or any other automatic debit payment plan. My bank shows that Citimortgage is the one debiting my account so now I have no choice but to close my checking account.

The extra May payment was, more than likely, credited as a principal payment. Making two payments in one month, regardless of who's fault, will not carry over to the next month. Any extra is applied to the principal balance of the loan, and the next payment is due the following month on the scheduled date. I am surprised that no one could answer this for you, as it seems to be a common misconception among consumers.

Are your payments due on the first of the month? If they are they paying them on the last day before they penalize you isn't really making on-time payments.

I had Citimortgage for awhile and the same thing happened to me. For 3 days straight they took out a payment. Each time they would blame the CU. Each time the CU said it was Citi (which I believed). When I asked for the extra payments to be reimbursed I was told they could not do that and that they would credit my account. So one month they got 3 payments and then I was still due for a payment the first of the next month. They attempted to do it the next month but after the 2nd time they attempted to take a payment the CU flagged the account. I had to close the account and open a new one. From that time on I would send a cashiers check as I did not want them to have my bank account info.
