Crest foods Informative - What is natural beef? don't be so sure

Review by lchiefan on 2010-06-24
What is natural beef? think about that question a second before awnsering it. Did you know that the USDA does not and can not test any meat for hormones or anti-biotics? Just like people, cattle get sick, if you are making your living by selling your cattle for a premium price, when your product [cow] gets sick do you give it medicine to make it healthy or not? After all, the cow and you are the only ones who would ever know and the cow can't tell on you. The truth is most all cattle are fed grass until they are at least 12 to 14 mths. old, not because it is better, but because it is cheaper. If I can make you the consumer believe that grass is better then I save money by not having to feed the animal corn or other grains. the problem is grass does not have enough fat in it to make beef marble, that is what makes it tender. beef is made tender by feeding it corn. Also, all American beef sold in the USA is inspected by the USDA. The truth is, no company, can guarantee you that the beef they are selling contains no anti-biotics or hormones, period. Don't believe me? Ask the USDA, State of Oklahoma agriculture dept. food and forestry div. in okc, ok. 405-521-3741. Meat can be grown orgnic, or natural, but only if you grow it. If you pay more for meat because it is called organic or natural, you do not have any way of knowing that it is. I have been in the meat business for over 20 years and I have seen a lot, I just hate for people to be misled and sold a lot of 'B. S.' about a product that is no different than the same product that is $2 or $3 per pound cheaper.

Just you speaking of beef makes me want to scarf down a thick, medium rare T-Bone Steak.
Thanks.
