Harrisburg Truss Company Complaint - Harrisburg Truss Company
HARRISBURG, ILLINOIS -- I would never recommend Harrisburg Truss Company for a construction project. In 2008, I had a second garage constructed at my residence and the lumber company (Wrights Building Center, Murphysboro, IL) where I purchased my products used Harrisburg Truss Co as their source of trusses. After approx. 6 mos, I noticed the roof began to warp. About 1 yr after completion, I employed the same contractor who built my garage to build a sunroom. When he saw the garage roof, he was very upset and wanted to know what happened. I told him I noticed it started about 6 mos. after the garage was completed. He inspected the roof and found nothing regarding the construction that would have caused the warping. He then went back to Wright's Blding Center and told them of the problem. After some run-around they finally contacted Harrisburg Truss Co., who sent a representative to inspect the roof. The representative inspected the roof and took several pics, and he too could find no structural error that would cause the warping, but that the trusses had pulled away from the plate about 1 to 1 &1/2“. He was unable to come with a solution and said he would talk to the President of Harrisburg Truss [snip]. After approx. 2 wks, [snip] came to personally inspect the situation. My contractor was present at the time. [snip] also could find no reason for the warping, but came to the conclusion that the trusses had been constructed before the wood was dried and after drying, they warped and pulled away from the plate. [snip] said he would go back to his engineers and see what solution could be used to rectify the problem. He also stated he didn't feel there was a structural problem with the building, just cosmetic. I asked him if he had spent thousands of dollars to have a garage build would he want to look like this one. Of course, his answer was "no". After consulting with his "engineers", they came to the conclusion that nothing could be done until the entire roof was removed and new trusses installed. [snip] informed me that they (Harrisburg Truss) would not pay any of the cost to have the existing roof removed and reinstalled. This solution is not acceptable to me. I paid for and expected quality material and do not feel I should have to pay to correct their mistake in construction.
I have every intention of following up on this problem and my contractor has told me he will support me in whatever avenues I have to take.
