Huffy Complaint - Defective brakes - Model: Cranbrook 26" Cruiser male

Review by weddings on 2010-06-28
This Huffy model replaced the same model with which I had beeen satisfied

I live in a private community where I can do a 3 mile loop without crossing a street or stopping. Upon returning home I enter my driveway which is st a 20 degree incline. While dismounting and putting pressure on the brake the strap holding the brake broke and fell onto lawn adjacent to driveway

I contacted Huffy and its response was it needed serial# which is found on the bottom of the crank in order to send a replacement strap

I notified PSC, an invesigator came to my house, examined the bike and took numerous pictures and the incident is being investigated

I assumed the purposes of my message would be evident - it was to alert readers that there is a serious safety issue here - if the strap that holds the brake snapped and this defect impairs the ability to safely stop quickly it would behoove readers to inspect that part on their own bike and all bikes using a pedal regardless of manufacturer because many companies will use the same company to acquire that part.
The PSC had already made a safety recall on that model several years ago. If PSC issued a new recall, how many owners would never become aware of it?
The PSC thought it serious enough to make an immediate investigation - Huffy could not be bothered - this is not the response of an honest, reputable company interested in the safety of the persons riding the bike.

weddings, that being the case this should have been an "Informative" and not a "Complaint".

As an Informative it is very helpful. BTW, who is the PSC you are referring to? PSC is usually the Public Service Commision. But that does not fit the context here.
