LG Electronics Complaint - LG - Don't Lose the Receipt
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NEW JERSEY -- I recently purchased an LG window A/C unit, model LW1210ER, 12K BTU. It worked very well for about two months, then something snapped inside so that it vibrates violently, so much that it could shatter the window if left running. Therefore I recommend that you avoid this unit due to mechanical instability and poor reliability.
To make matters worse, I called the LG service department for a repair. They assured me the service technician would be there four days hence to correct the problem. The service tech arrived and promptly told me that no repairs could be made without the original receipt. Huh? First, why is that the case? Are they concerned that I purchased a stolen air conditioner? Am I guilty until proven innocent? I will admit that I don't understand this policy. And why didn't the telephone service representative inform me of this fact when I called? I could have at least attempted to locate the receipt and, failing that, saved myself some time by returning the unit to Home Depot for an exchange.
So, to summarize:
1. Unit has poor reliability;
2. LG's service policy is unsatisfactory, using lame rules in order to not stand by their equipment.
So, don't just avoid this unit, avoid LG in general. Poor customer service.
