Choice Dek Composite Decking Complaint - Choice Dek - Class Action Suit

Review by choicedek on 2010-06-29
I purchased and installed a small 10 x 14 Choice Dek composite deck in 2006. It was advertised as "virtually maintenance free" yet within a few months of installation, it began to show black spots on the deck surface. After repeated cleanings according to manufacturer's specifications, the spots continued to resurface within a week or so of cleaning. After four years of repeatedly cleaning, scrubbing, and bleaching with composite deck cleaner and outdoor bleach used as recommended, the spots got continually worse and never completely disappeared. I was contacted when a class action suit was filed, submitted my claim which was recently approved. I was told that I would be contacted by a cleaning company to try to clean/restore my deck to its original condition. I am still waiting. I've been told that this decking is one of the best on the market, except for this mold problem.

That is one big exception: it is the most depressing thing in the world to see something so nice turn so ugly, with no apparent solution. A costly lesson learned.
