American Knights Moving and Storage - Houston Complaint - Constant Threat Not to Deliver Our Things and very Rude Delivery People

Review by dior on 2010-06-29
HOUSTON, TEXAS -- I checked the website from the list of accredited movers. I contacted 3 moving services out of so many and we decided to trust the American Knights Moving and Storage. Their quote is not the cheapest but we wanted to make sure the relocation is stress free. (or a little stress is okey)

Javier made a good quotation, I even asked for discounts and another round of quotation after I disposed some of our stuff. The pick-up guys arrived as scheduled but after our things were on their truck, that's when we encountered our first problem. We are quoted $1,900 for our Houston to Charlotte move. Our bill ended up at $2,624.00. I just added a bike, 1 storage box with toys and probably 2 24x24 box for the last minute gifts from our friends. With a huge difference, we ask why that happen. Since its already past 7:30pm with nothing to do but to accept it, we signed the Bill of Lading.

After 3 weeks, one day before our things will be delivered, I received a call from delivery guy telling me that he cannot locate our address from his GPS. Giving him another address from the establishment near our place, we thought that everythings is okey.

On that day, around 8:30am, we received another call that he cannot locate our add. We decided to help him and give the Exits and Intersections and keep on coordinating until its almost 10:30am. From that conversation he became rude and he keep on telling us that we are not anymore in Charlotte. he decided to ask the police... eventually, he arrived in our area. Upon entering our apartment complex, the 18 wheeler truck cannot go inside. (of course, 18 wheeler is for highways) That's when he started threatening us. He wanted us to pay $500.00 so that our things will be transferred to a 24 footer truck and then deliver to our house. When I told him that we are not paying anything, he threaten us that all our things will be put to a storage and we will pay for it. He even told us that he is not working for American Knight over and over until I decided to ask why he is the one delivering our things. I called Max the dispatcher and Javier the one who made the estimate and told them that we will not pay for a single dollar. They decided and ask us to split the bill of $500 and even lower it to $100.00 for us and $400.00 for the them. With all that commotion, and problem, delivery guy is still very rude and keeps on threatening us. I asked delivery guy not to go anywhere until Max, Javier and I get into the agreement. But of course, delivery guy left, turning his back on me. True to his word, he will leave and put our things in the storage.

After few minutes, American Knights decided that they will be the one to pay for the $500.00 additional charge. I informed them that delivery guy left and that we will just wait for their call on what will happen next.

That's 12:30noon. Around 2:00pm, we received a call form delivery guy asking where we are. (still rude). He can't find any 24 footer truck and he is asking where we are and why we leave our apartment. I told him that since he is claiming that he is not working for American Knights, I will only received call from the people of American Knight (Javier the estimator or Max the dispatcher). When we arrived home, he hired additional 2 people plus the 2 of them. But another problem strike. They will not unload our things not until we will pay for the other half. I told him that you can see the cash money but we are not going to give it to you until all our things are here. Of course, what can you expect, another threat from him. And he even leave. I called Javier and he explained that that's the rule. Just to make things done we agreed to pay. They started unloading our stuff with 3 missing boxes and 1 missing bookshelf. He wanted me to sign that the only missing is the bookshelf. When I say I will not agree, he threaten to leave. (again). But since he cannot leave without my signature, he ended up looking for the 3 missing boxes. He pushed and messed up with the boxes and eventually he found it. It's not my fault if his people put the boxes inside with out telling me the numbers I'm tracking. Then they left.

Since American Knights is based in Houston try calling the Texas consumer protection agency at 512-463-2100 or 800-621-0508 to see if they can help you resolve this situation.
