Home Depot Complaint - Defective Carpeting and backing
BETTENDORF, IOWA -- Purchased wall to wall carpet for livingroom, diningroom, and stairs from Home Depot in January 2008.The carpet was installed and had a smell to it. Called Home Depot and they sent someone to clean it. That did not help but for a short time. Was told that particular carpet needed cleaned every 6 months. This carpet constantly looks dirty and it has been shampooed and cleaned and still looks bad. Recently the seams came apart and the backing came away from the carpet. Called Home Depot and was told it is only guaranteed for 1 year and I would have to pay to have it fixed. Home Depot had someone call me and I was told there is a $75 fee just for someone to even come look at the carpet and then to have it fixed would be more money for me. If I had known this was going to be such a hassle and that the carpet was going to look dingy and dirty even after the cleaning, I would never ever had bought it. Then to be treated rudely by Home Depot because of this. Nothing they can do, I was told. It was my responsibility to get it fixed. I will never deal with Home Depot again on anything. The manager was rude on the phone and the lady who called to set up an appointment to have it looked at was nice until I told her I was not paying for someone to come in and look at it and then turn around and pay to have it fixed. This carpet has many problems and the manufactuer and Home Depot should be responsible. Bad for business. Home Depot could have given me the name of the manufacturer so I could have gotten a hold of them but instead treated me rudely. I am done with Home Depot and I would suggest nayone buying anything large from them to check out the warranties, etc beforehand, as they will not help you in any way resolve issues. This has happened to my mother who purchased a $1500 refrigerator from Home Depot and the men who brought it, scraped the front and Home Depot has never done anything about it. She has magnets on the front to cover the spot. Bad, bad business!Rude manager and non helpful in any way except to say I have to pay to have it looked at and fixed.
