Jim Coleman Toyota Informative - Unfortunate history with Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, MD

Review by qlxrma on 2010-06-30
BETHESDA, MARYLAND -- Good things about Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, MD, are:
lifetime oil change deal on my 2002 Prius (but they don't offer it any more); rental from Enterprise nearby if repairs take more than 1 day (but I think TMC requires this); clean and professional environment.

Bad experiences:
(1) The Used Camry ('93?) we purchased there in the late 90s turned out to have been a victim of odometer fraud (80K mi when we bought it, not 35K mi, as advertised) but Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, MD, did not compensate because they claimed they bought it at auction and had no knowledge that the engine was so worn. I think a professional car buyer should have been able to tell that.
(2) The Used Tercel ('92?) we purchased there in the late-90s suffered pre-mature engine burn out (135K mi), too, even though I did regular oil changes.
(3) 2002 Prius we bought elsewhere, but had serviced at Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, MD had repeated steering problems we kept having to pay for, and suddenly suffered $12K damage due to transmission and other mechanical/electronic failures (long after warranty ran out). I don't understand why a car that was in their hands for service as often as ours was could not have been protected from such sudden and catastrophic deterioration. Granted, we put over 160K miles on the car, but a well-maintained 2002 Prius should last well over 200K.

I will NOT deal with Jim Coleman Toyota in Bethesda, MD, any more if I can avoid it.

You included some good things as well as bad ones in this review. I don't often see that. This was informative. Thanks!
