WRS Roofing Complaint - WRS Roofing Tried To Scam Us!

Review by MOMOFLA on 2010-07-01
CASTLE ROCK, COLORADO -- SCAM ARTISTS!!! I had interviewed a few companies and decided that we definitely wanted to go local. We chose WRS roofing as they had the best price and letters of recommendation. After we chose them, we faxed the contract (the proposal they left with us) to them and received a phone call asking for our insurance documents so that they could make sure everything was "good", which I did. The job was done within two days and they had a sign in my yard for ONE of those days. About a week after the job was done, I got a phone call asking for payment and I said of course, after I get an invoice and receipt. Someone who worked for them came by with an invoice for me and it was in the amount of $6199.00 which was $1007.00 more than we signed the contract for! I asked him why it was so much when the "proposal" that we signed (making it a legal binding contract) said $5192.00? He said that they must have paid my deductible and I said no (my deductible was not nearly $1000.00). I told him that I was not going to bill my insurance company for the extra $1007, especially if It can't be explained why it's there. He told me that I pay the initial amount and then submit the invoice with the remaining $1007 to be paid. I glanced into a folder that he had in his hands and and the FAXED copy of the proposal that we signed was on top and hand written in a different pen was something to the effect of $6199 originally charged minus a $1007 charge for sign placement in the yard. The interesting thing is that the $1007 difference is $.99 different from the REPLACEMENT COST VALUE that the insurance company gave for overages. Interesting that they were so close to insurance value AFTER they received my insurance documents, huh? Hmmm. Sign placement? I don't think so.

I asked him to sign the invoice saying paid in full, he went to sign it and said, oh no wait..."I should sign the original since that is what says the right price". Clearly not thinking, I said OK. He then signed the original invoice saying paid in full and left me with the last invoice for $1007 more. It took me calling three times and threatening to turn them into the contractors licensing board to finally get the correct invoice. Wouldn't surprise me if they used the more expensive one for tax purposes. THIS COMPANY TRIED to SCAM me!! PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!! And how sad that we went locally. What an embarrasssment.
