South Beach Diet Complaint - Rip Off - On Line Diet Site

Review by alex3132 on 2010-07-03
This is a well know diet and when entering the site you are offered a free 7 day trial, that you can cancel before the end of the trial and not be charged. You have to give a credit card to be offered the free trial, it is worded that you will be charged $5.00 Per week and that you can cancel at any time. Sounds all very good so far, expect when you go to cancel after 7 days you can't get through and they will automatic bill you for 3 months, yes I cancelled mine 2 days outside the week trial so was expecting to pay $5. Wrong again they charged me £44.82 And told me I would have access to the site until September 2010. I don't want access I want my money back, but looking online at other reviews regarding this company that is not likely to happen as lots of people have been stung in the same way, so my advise to anyone going on this site don't do it, not unless you are happy to be committed for 3 months subscription.

If you worded your post correctly "when you go to cancel AFTER 7 days"
then you cancelled AFTER the trial period ended. The terms clearly state:

Online membership is just $5 a week, billed quarterly (every 13 weeks).

And indicate the first billing obligation will occur once the free trial period expires - you have to cancel BEFORE the trial period ends.

Good review, Alex. People need to remember, for something to be truly free, there is no need to give your CC/bank info.

This would have tipped me off that its a scam. Nothing if free and their business model is to protect themselves from people (like you) who go in already planning to cancel before the trial period ends.

The OP stated that they attempted to cancel 2 days before the 7 day trial was up but was unable o get through.

OP did you attempt to contact more than 1 time before the 7 days was up? And why did you decide to cancel?

Hi there, South Beach Diet online is a scam, that has been going on for years! They continue to do exactly the same as the previous comments and swindle people out of their hard earned cash. I did not complete the transaction or give my credit card security number but the still debited my card for $70! I am hoping my bank will be able to reverse the charge on the basis that they don't have my security number. I received several emails when I left the transaction incomplete urging me to go back and look at their offering again. I do a lot of real business with US companies , and I know this is not the norm - just unscrupulous companies with no business ethics have to rely on scamming people to earn a living. Unfortunately nothing to stop thieves all over the world - whatever shape or form they come in - just take away that if they want your credit card details for a free offer, they they are probably going to rip you off. They use a reputable brand like South Beach Diet to scam people into buying their service without being honest or transparent about what they are offering.
