Hotwire, Inc Complaint - Would not allow cancelation of car rental
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA -- Rented a car from Hotwire on 7/2/2010 for a reservation on 7/22/2010. I will not be able to take vacation and called on 7/7/2010 in the morning to cancel my reservation with Enterprise Car rental (the vendor selected by hotwire) Enterprise car rentals said that they would cancel my reservation without problem. I then called Hotwire to notify them. Hotwire support said they would not give me a refund. They said they had paid Enterprise and could not get their money back. I called Enterprise back and she said that this was a misstatement. They have no such policy and it was Hotwire with the no-refund policy. I called Hotwire again and the representative insisted it was their rule and there are no refunds I am turning my complaint to the state attorney general in California and DC for false and misleading business practices. I could agree with Hotwire charging me a "inconvenience fee" for canceling the reservation but to have to pay $260.40 for a rental I will not be using is excessive. I will not recommend Hotwire to anyone and encourage all of you with complaints to visit the state attorney general website and fill in a complaint form. The state attorney general's office will review the complaint and investigate their business practices, if they are found in violation, could be stopped from doing business in the state.
