Gmac Complaint - Had it with gmac - auto loan

auto loan - Complaint
Review by bitten once on 2010-07-08
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- I bought a Chevy malibu in 2007 I financed it with GMAC. since then my wife became blind in her left eye due to glaucoma, then she was laid off at sam's club. I make the car payment and the payment was due on the 30th of each month due to circumstances about my wife I am not able to pay on time but I am a bi-lateral amputee and receive my disability check in my bank on the second wed of each month, I send my car payment off then. I have told and told GMAC this, beginning the 5th or 6th of each month I start getting their calls anywhere from 2 to 4 per day up to 8:30 pm then the next day starting at 8:28 am. these are robo calls with no person and a list of options that are no options. after I don't pick up for a few days then I get calls from a different number (888-611-6904)same GMAC but from a foreign country and a person who can't speak good English. I am tired of this same routine every month. I wiull never buy another vehicle made by General motors(government motors) ever again. no wonder they went belly -up. I urge you to think hard before you do business with these people.

I am financed through GMAC and have had no problems whatsoever; I set up an auto-pay right after buying the car and all is well.

Is it possible for you to get one month ahead so you're payment will always be on time?

I am truly sorry for your circumstances.

I think I would agree with Venice and try to get a month ahead, thereby making your payments even early.

You and your wife are in my prayers. Best of luck.

Agreeing with everyone above me. GM is not dictating the situation, but instead YOUR circumstances are. The easiest solution is to try and get one month ahead, then your future payments will always be on-time. I understand that in your current situation, getting ahead one month may prove to be difficult. I hope the best for you and your wife in resolving the dilemma.

genius pure genius IF I had the money I would pay ahead duh! Huh!

Your situation changed, not GM's. How is that their fault? It never ceases to amaze me when people start complaining about private matters that have affected their livelihood. That is not GM's fault. They have adhered to their end of the contract. My wife too is on disability, so I feel your pain in trying to reason with these large corporations, but at the end of the day...it's still YOUR problem, not theirs. Get a payday loan against your disability check to cover the cost. Just don't fall victim or prey to the sleezy ones out there. There are many options out there, other than wishing ill will upon GMAC.

You may also place the blame on Walmart for laying off your wife. Walmart could have find an alternative work for her.

I can see why it would be difficult to get a month ahead even though that is a good idea.

Who are you telling that you can't make the payment on the 30th? From the way your review is written, it sounds like you're just talking to the reps when the late payment calls start happening.

Why not just call GMAC right now, ask to speak to someone in their finance dept that can make decisions and request that your due date be changed? I know this can be done and I doubt they will deny it if you explain the financial situation your in...they'd rather get the payment on time every month than have it be late every month.

Good luck!

MRM> Good point, but I'm just curious because the OP never directly stated that his wife was laid off BECAUSE of the blindness. He just mentioned the two facts in the same sentence. I am with you in assuming that's what he meant, but just curious.

justcause> +100...you beat me to that one. I was typing nearly word for word the same sentiment. I too had the same feeling that the OP was only talking to the normally impersonal and harrassing collections agent, instead of the finance department.

OP, no need to get snarky. The commenters were merely making suggestions to help out your situation. As others have said, your situation changed, it's not that GMAC has changed what they're asking of you. It's too bad that you're in the spot you're in, but the bottom line is, you agreed to a contract with GMAC and you have to hold up your end. If you don't, they are in their rights to call you and ask for their payment.

Also as the others pointed out, you need to speak to someone in the finance department and tell them your situation. They might be able to help.

Thx Justice...I hope the OP tries this if they haven't already.

Snarky? Okay, you're invited to Scrabble night at my house. LOL! Sorry, but I love to commend people on their literacy;)

J4A, my hubby and I are Scrabble addicts!

Just cause, great advice. I assumed the OP already did that. You can't explain your situation to the people who call and expect them to change the agreement. But you're right, that might be what the OP is doing.

OP, depending on the size of the payment, it is not necessarily out of the question for you to safe up enough money to be a month ahead. The people here realize that you are having financial trouble but do not know the details. Sometimes extra money can be found in the strangest places if you look and think hard enough.

I hope you take the advice of just cause if you haven't done so already. I am confident that you can have the due date changed if you speak to the right people and do not alienate them with the wrong attitude. Remember, you want them to do something for you that they are not obligated to do. So a lot will depend on how you present yourself.

I really hope it works out for your and your wife.

First off my wife was blinded by Duke eye center,if she didn't get the lazer surgery she could go blind.then she and 14 others got laid off in an attempt to get rid of permanent employess.this was in all the sam's clubs they farmed out the demo dept.my complaint is they(gmac)call 2 to 4 times per day no matter what witn no person just robo calls. Then I call them and tell them when I am going to send the payment in and they lie say they will note it then here come the call's again OH! I have never been over 20 days late ever.OH! doctors&hospitals use the excuse now it was bacteria or an infection to avoid a lawsuit so nothing can be done for incompedence.
