Cadillac Complaint - 2005 CTS - Burns oil

Burns oil - Complaint
Review by sherrielynne on 2010-07-09
I have a 2005 CTS with 50,000 miles that Burns a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or less. They say this is common at the Cadillac Dealer here in town. I bought the extra warranty from them. What a waste of money. Plus I see mine isn't the only one so do a lot of checking before you buy one.

I think its pretty bad when you have to check the oil on a Cadillac about every day before you drive it.

Now-a-days that is excessive oil consumption. In the old days, not so much. What engine do you have? I have a 2005 Buick LaCrosse with a 3.8 liter engine that does not use any oil between changes(5000 miles).

I'm thinking mine is also a 3.8 its a 6 cylinder. I have had it to the Cadillac dealer every 500 miles for 3,000 miles for them to test it.It was using a quart every 800 miles. They said it was the gas they cleaned something Plus another oil change which helped a little bit.Now I use Shell. But I told them it still using it and they said there was nothing they could do cause a 1,000 miles is ok.I say that's excessive also but they don't.So I think next I'm gonna call the warranty place see what they say and take it to Kalamazoo instead of Battle Creek Michigan Dealer
Should of kept my 2002 Monte Carlo that didn't burn oil

If it is a 6cyl 2005 CTS it's either a 2.8L or 3.6L.

Most automakers actually have a disclaimer in their fine print that consum a quart of oil every 1,000 miles is normal. Which yes, in my opinion, is not normal. It's more of a CYA for the automaker than anything.
