DirecTV Inc Complaint - Be aware direct TV can take away the receivers you own
On December2009, I called Direct TV for a $5 “leased receiver” item. They said, it was for the original receiver installed in 2001. I was told to return the original and buy one. I own an extra receiver in the room that I purchased 07, it was not being "leased". I purchased a receiver, returned theirs. By July the item was still in the bill. I called and I was told, even I purchased, it was not mine, still have to pay $5 a month. I felt deceived and decided to cancel service. I was penalized with $340, because “when I changed the receiver I started a new contract”!! ???
Now I have to return to direct TV the equipment that I purchased from a private party. (double billing, they billed the previous owner and I have to return the equipment ) If I don’t they will bill me $250.
I’ve been penalized $360 because “I signed a new contract” when I changed the receiver, under their advice. I did not get any rebate or new customer incentive neither I was told that I was in a new agreement!!
It is worth to know that if the equipment malfunctions then is “yours”. Meaning they are leasing an equipment that you “own” if it breaks.
I don't know how to call it other than "stealing".
