Empire Flooring Complaint - Big Waste of Time
My husband and I had Empire come out to do an estimate for carpet and hardwood in our house. The sales woman was nice enough, but not nice enough to make us think Empire was a good deal. Their selection is minimal to say the least. They don't price by "sq ft" which is ridiculous because that's how flooring is priced everywhere else. We asked which type of carpet was cheaper, and they told us that it's a "package deal" the carpet, padding, and installation, so they couldn't tell us which is cheaper, just that they are very comparable, not an answer. Their measurements took almost an hour for three rooms, and the numbers they came up with were much larger than our actual rooms, my husband is a carpenter and measured all the rooms, they were off by almost 600 sq ft all together! Then the calculations began. She sat with a calculator for almost 45 minutes and gave us a quote, which was 4 times what Home Depot quotes us. She couldn't even explain to us how they come up with their prices, because remember they don't do it based on sq ft. So they pretty much give you an arbitrary number. The sales woman called the manager to try to get a better price for us, but the prove we got was still 3 times that of our other quotes. She asked what she could do so we would order that day... I think it was pretty understood that we wouldn't order if they were 3x the cost of their competitors! She went on to bash Home Depot and their reputation, instillation, etc. I really hate when sales people do that, you can find horror stories with any company! Don't bother, they are not worth the 2+ hours of nonsense!
