Ulta Cosmetics Complaint - Deceitful coupons - beauty supplies

HENDERSON, NEVADA -- I attempted to use an Ulta cosmetics coupon the other day in their store in Nevada just to be told by the cashier that the coupon was not valid for the $50 hair care product I was buying. The coupon was for 20% off any one item, but in very small letters it says "see in store for exclusions". The cashier told me that "everything on that side",pointing to the right side of the store was part of the exclusion. You would think that businesses these days would welcome a customer willing to spend $50 in their store. What is the point of offering a coupon if you are going to exclude half of the store? Needless to say I did not buy the product and refuse to shop at their store ever again. Businesses who treat customers like this should go out of business. Khols on the other hand lets you use their coupon on EVERYTHING in their store, now that store will stay in business for a long time. They know how to treat their customers and keep them coming back for more.

I have to agree with you about Kohl's. They definitely know what they're doing. Their goal is to keep customers coming back, and as far as I can tell, it's working.

To exclude half a store from a coupon is deceptive. If I had that information beforehand, I wouldn't even bother going. For certain products to be excluded is one thing, but not an entire half of the store. I'd be annoyed, too.

In this economy, it is foolish for a business to be misleading customers with deceptive advertising. I will only spend my hard earned money at a business that treats me fair, it courteous and doesn't try to swindle me.

I would take your side, except you have to understand that it is the vendors that choose to not participate in the coupons. There should be a largely visible list of "prestige and salon artistry brands" available at the cash counter, atleast at my store it is. It isn't the cashier's fault, it isn't Ulta's fault, it is the actual brand's fault, because they choose not to participate.

I think they choose to not participate because these coupons are sent out every week, there is ALWAYS a 20% off or 3.50 off coupon going around.
