Dormia Mattresses Complaint - Don't buy a Dormia Mattress

Complaint
Review by mwilhit on 2010-07-14
We bought a Dormia adjustable latex mattress 11-2007 and by 11-2009 is had lost all support where we sleep. It was like sleeping in 2 ditches. So I sent in a warranty claim with pictures.

Here are the 2 responses from Abby at Dormia -
response 1- The warranty claim you have submitted was reviewed and has been denied for a replacement mattress. This claim was denied because based on the photos you submitted your warranty is void because the mattress is stained. The warranty states “This warranty is void if the product is found to have been tampered with or misused by the purchaser beyond reasonable wear, shall not apply if the product has been physically damaged intentionally or due to accident and/or neglect; including burns, cuts, water damage, mold, stains, or is otherwise abnormally soiled or unsanitary”.

Response 2- It is wise to cover your mattress with a mattress cover, most sales reps recommend their customer's purchase a mattress at the point of sale. Especially since the warranty clearly states stains void the warranty.

Classic Brands will not be offering any refunds. You are free to take any further action you feel are necessary.

FYI -There is a slight yellowish stain on one side about 4 inches wide - probably from sleeping with wet hair. Thats it no damage, abuse, misuse its only 2 years old.

Be warned they will not honor the 20-year warranty!!!!!

That's a shame. I have a Dormia mattress (2 years old in June) that I really love, and I haven't had the experience you had. Unfortunately, a year ago I had shingles and the lesions on my back bled through the sheet onto the pillow top--completely my fault that I didn't have a mattress protector; I sure hope I don't have the same problem with the caving thing you have and try to have it replaced under warranty. Sorry to hear.

Wow, does the warranty state a stain will void the warranty? If it does then I guess they would deny your claim. That is good info to know.

We have a 7 year old Dormia mattress which has ditches on each side and a high ridge in the middle. It is really awful. I literally have to climb over the hump to snuggle with my wife. I have just contacted Dormia about filing a warranty claim but now it seems I needn't bother. I wondered about that "stain" verbiage when I read it in the warranty...seemed odd to me but now I see why...they use that as their fallback so they can deny a warranty claim for their inferior product by pointing to a stain which would occur with regular use of any mattress. What a scam!

My Dormia is 5 years old and no matter how I turn it or flip it, it sinks where i sleep. I submitted a claim and they told me that there must be a 1.5" dip in order to have the mattress replaced. I have since pulled out my back and my chiropractor says that my hips are far too forward and my sacrum is crooked. I'm now looking for a new mattress that supports me as a consistent side sleeper, that won't dip or sag. When i bought the mattress, my main concern was that i should NEVER have to flip or turn it because it's memory foam! I wake up every day with aches and soreness and I feel SO cheated!!!
