Unprofessional Store Manager

HARTSVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA -- Badcock & More in Hartsville SC has shady business practices. I ordered three pieces of furniture from this location on March 2, 2018 and was advised that it would be available for pickup on Tuesday, March 6th. I advised the assistant store manager whom was assisting me that I would be in on Wednesday to pick up due to my work schedule. Upon arriving on Wednesday morning March 7th. The “store manager” advised that pick up days and times were Tuesdays and Fridays between the hours of 2PM - 6PM (working hours for “most” people).

That information was not shared with me prior to the purchase., otherwise I would have made other arrangements. We offered to sign a waiver and pick up the furniture ourselves to no avail. This person clearly went out of her way to ensure that this was the most unpleasantness experience ever. She went so far as to show two placards at the very ends of a round counter facing outward (that you wouldn't see unless you were on the ends facing them) with the dates of pickup. Okay, no problem...

I asked for a return on the purchase because I wasn't driving 45 minutes back to Hartsville for a third time on Friday. She advised that due to the amount it would take up to 14 days to get a refund (paper check) from corporate. Unacceptable, it took less than 10 minutes to be electronically debited, why can't it be returned in the same method of payment?

She said “due to the amount of the return it would have to come from corporate”. I go out to my car and contact customer service whom advised that a return could be made to my credit card, that if it was cash a check would have to come from corporate and could take up to 14 days. She further stated that a manager had to be present to do the return. I go back in the store and ask the person that I was dealing with if she was the store manager and she advised that she was.

I proceeded to let her know that customer service representative advised that she was able to do the return in question with my card. She states “ok”. I walk back out to my car to retrieve my purse with my Visa card in it. When I approached the counter, I calmly stated how unprofessional this experience has been, and how I had gone to three different Badcock stores before finding and purchasing it there; and how sad it was that she was so eager to lose a customer as oppose to keeping one.

The entire time she's not acknowledging anything that I've said. She picks up my original receipt and writes “canceled sale” on it and said that was my return. I argued that I needed a receipt showing that a return actually took place. She advised that this was all she had. I said, "No mam I have no recourse once I exit these doors that a return actually took place." She snatched up my paper and said “I can write it on the back, that's all you're getting”. At this point I am furious, I told her that she was being very nonchalant, and clearly not addressing my needs.

At this point, a guy whom was sitting (hanging out) in the store the entire time jumps up and tells her to call the law and proceeds to argue with me. She calls 911 and states that there is a customer refusing to leave the store as well as gives a description of what I'm wearing; yet never stated why I wasn't leaving. At this point I haven't done anything wrong, and didn't mind waiting on law enforcement.

While waiting I contact customer service again to see why is it that can't I get a receipt for this so called return that took place. Amazingly before I could actually speak with someone, she was able to produce a credit card return. Needless to say I waited for law enforcement and explained why I was being accused of refusing to leave. The entire time prior to law enforcements arrival the person hanging out in the store encouraging an argument. Had she refunded my $1721.52, and given me a receipt all of this could have been avoided.

She lied stating that she couldn't do a credit card return, then lied stating that there was not a receipt available for the refund, as well as called law enforcement on me when she supposedly couldn't produce a refund. I will never shop at the Hartsville location again. People like this should not be allowed to work with the public in a customer service fashion. Hangout guy kept saying that they have it all in camera, which doesn't bother me.

I just hope that someone takes the time to look at the recordings and see how customers are being mistreated. There is no reason why this process should have taken the route that it did, and law enforcement be involved because the person that called “claimed” she couldn't produce a receipt. Apparently she realized how that situation looked on her part, and produced the needed documentation.

JACKSON, GEORGIA -- You know, Ya try.. Buy local.. Support your community. Past products about half my house. I mean Badcock has some pretty nice furniture in comparison to other department stores. So, I go in find what I wanted as usual, and I mean seriously I could go anywhere.. Promised the bed would arrive purchased at close to 5 grand. A bed now. With headboard, adjustable frame. All the warranties. Course I have 0 interest because Well I been blessed .. Come home. Take MY Bed down prepare for the new one.

The young men show up. They start to unload and at one point they STOP to show me a piece of the wood that is warped. No way this would screw in the bottom without stress being applied and it splits. They then said we told the Manager BREE before we left. And she said take it.. I said load it up.. Load it all up. See it's not the piece, the guys being honest, or the fact stuff happens. It's the integrity of a company that tries to pass on products that they know is flawed. If she would have called me and said, hey, the product seems to be warped, we will have to order a NEW.. this would be acceptable. Even say hey, there is a part that is warped. Let me have the guys try applying it to the end of the bed to see if it will hold until I can get you a NEW one in ASAP. Integrity and communication.

Then she called to explain how wood works. She said that if you take screws and put them in the bed that it would straighten out. I was shocked to say the least but to try to call someone and say that a solid piece that had warped due to heat or whatever could now be straightened out by adding screws. I think she needs to take the concept to the wood industry and explain how in her mind a BOWED piece of wood that first does not lay flat. Can now be straightened without cracking or splintering, by just screwing it in. Who cares how it looks, or if it splits in a few days. We breathe the same air??

HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA -- Hi everyone. Please check reviews before buying something from Badcock. It's terrible and worst experience I had in my life concerning quality and customer service. We bought sofa and ottoman in Dec 2018. Warranty 1 year. Since June 2019 we began to notice that the sofa cover began to frown and bubble next. We called them and they sent inspection. No answers after that. I've called them again and they told me that it was my fault, we used sofa in improper way))) I found Michael in corporate office. Several times we talk on the phone and he tried to make me fool as like I don't know how to use furniture. Man, I'm 39 years old, I saw and used bunch of them and they all were able to serve for years and first time see sofa damaged completely in 6-8 months. Now in 9 months the sofa looks like it from garbage, there are huge circles without any covering at all. Bad cocks just changed one part and ottoman and said they won't change another one. Warranty))) That Michael tried to make me an idiot. I told him about customer service that he can't talk with me in such a way. He answered that he is not from customer service ))) means he can talk like he wants.

COLUMBUS, GEORGIA -- I purchased a bedroom set (4 pieces) from BADcock Home Furniture. The sales agent gave me a delivery time window of 10 AM - 2 PM. I was also advised that I would receive a call at least 10 to 15 minutes before my delivery. I finally called at 2:15 PM after not receiving the furniture. The female that answered the phone advised me she didn't have anything to do with the time and that I should speak with "my" sales agent. When "my" sales agent picked up the line, she advised me that my delivery time window was from 2 PM to 6 PM. She placed me on a long hold.

When she came back she assured me that they would be on their way after packing up their current delivery. I left work early so I could be there when they arrived. Three hours later there was a knock at my door. There was no phone call like I was advised I would receive. The delivery men carried my furniture up stairs to the bedroom. Once the furniture is in the room, one of them asked "Did the sales representative call you about your dresser?" He proceeds to tell me that the dresser was damaged coming from the warehouse. He said that she was supposed to call me to set up a time to deliver my replacement dresser. Of course no one called me.

He pointed out the damage for me to see. I called immediately to advise of the damage and was told I would get a call back. This time I did receive a call back 5 minutes before the store closed. The same sales agent asked me what did I want her to do when I advised her of the damage. Really??? I want the replacement. She then stated she would call me back the next day because she couldn't find my paperwork. Once I was off the phone, I checked the bed. GUESS WHAT, the bed was broken too!!!

Why would any business deliver a product to a customer that they knew was broken, defective or damage when they received it??? I didn't purchase any scratch/dent furniture or as-is furniture so why would it be delivered that way.

Badcock Will Not Take Any Responsibility

CONYERS, GEORGIA -- I bought a North Shore living room furniture set in November 2012 (couch, chair with ottoman and an accent chair) in GA. I asked that the furniture be left in the plastic to protect it because I was moving to TN. In Sept 2014. I noticed something was on the cloth of chair. I cleaned it immediately to keep it from staining. In Oct 2014, I turned cushion over to maintain the fullness of cushion. There was a big #55 & a #2 in blue on the cloth. With help of my family, we figured out someone wrote those numbers on the cushion with a black marker.

When I cleaned the cloth and left it damp to dry, the marker on cushion bled through onto the chair's cloth. We saw other numbers with a word stamped in black on side of cushion 452fusion 8/17. I called customer service in Fl, and I told them I needed to speak to a supervisor when I was told my warranty was up. The supervisor was no help either. The supervisor said that I had no protection plan, and my warranty was over. Also, I was told it wasn't their fault. It was the manufacturer's fault, and the product was no longer made.

I told the supervisor that I saw the accent chair still on their website. I was told that they had a few more left in stock, but they couldn't take the cushion off a chair and give it to me or a different cloth cover. I told the supervisor that even though the company hadn't manufactured the product; it was sold by Badcock so they should be responsible. Of course, supposedly, I am the only person who has had this problem. I have bought Badcock products at different times over the last 20 years.

This will be my last time, and I hope anyone that reads this review will take my advice. Please pass it along to others too; DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM BADCOCK FURNITURE STORES. I had trouble sending pictures. I'm not sure what this is. I will try again to send correct ones.

CLEVELAND, TENNESSEE -- 2/5/19

Complaint: Badcock Furniture Cleveland, TN Location. After the first set we bought broke and was recalled from this location, Walter(sales rep) was very friendly in helping us find the perfect couch for us. I explained that we have animals in our house and that a leather couch and loveseat would not be good for us. He then explained the 3 year extended warranty and that it covers cat scratches. I could not believe what I just heard so I had to ask again. He said that it covers scratches, accidental tears, spills, etc. So we decided to pay the extra for the 3 year warranty because we fell in love with a leather set. After not even a year, I called Protectant (3 year warranty company) and the lady informed me that they do not cover cat scratches. I was very upset because my young furry children did indeed scratch one of the pieces. I called the store, tech came out. I also asked for my refund of the 3 year warranty and told the owner of my problems I experienced. He told me that I can only get a prorated amount because I have had access to the warranty since March 2018. I called corporate and they said that they could not do anything since he was an owner. Another corporate tech came out last Friday but was suppose to come out that Thursday. No one called to tell us that he had a family emergency Thursday and could not be there. So today I called and talked with LeBron (owner) again and he informs me that since the couch has cat scratches on it that it voids the warranty and that it is now up to Quality Assurance to get a Exchange approved. I then also asked about the 3 year warranty refund status. He said that there was a glitch in the system but fixed it last Tuesday. I NEVER GOT A CALL! He then asked if I would like him to process my refund today. At this point, I'm furious. I said yes since you were suppose to process it 2 weeks ago. I told him that I will never use this company again. His response was rude and that he had a note that I would never use the company again and that he also has it noted that I wouldn't even walk past the door. (I never said that I would never walk past the door) but after today, YOU BET I WILL NOT! Bottom line I was lied to from the beginning and this is how they treat their customers.

Update 2/6/19:

LeBron(owner) contracted me yesterday offering me an Exchange without a 1 year manufacturers warranty and still working out the glitch for my $136 prorated 3 year warranty refund. I just received a phone call from the corporate number Pam(my specialist) told me again that I do not qualify for the 1 year warranty because of the cat scratches. I ended up getting very upset with her as I explained that this will be my 3rd set with your company.

First one: Broke, Recalled

Second One: Sales person lied about 3 yr warranty & reclining back piece came lose or broke & padding went flat on BOTH pieces (This came from the tech who came out last Friday. He stated that these pieces do not get made with thick enough padding! and that the stuff he has is thicker, WOW) **FYI, he didn't fix the back piece nor the padding last Friday.

Third One: There is a good chance this one with break too and padding will go flat!

I have asked multiple times for a refund, I am told no. I agreed for an exchange and now I'm being told "as is" no 1 year manufacturers warranty? THIS IS THE BIGGEST RUN AROUND I HAVE EVER SEEN!

$1100 for Two Couches That Didnt Last 3 Years!!!

DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA -- My wife and I paid $1,100 for two small couches that were a set. Each outside chair has an electric recliner which we thought was a great feature. 3 yrs later (now) the material, which we've come to learn is vinyl is peeling on the surface of the chairs. We feel duped into spending top dollar on really cheap couches. Avoid this store at all cost!

ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA -- I purchased a Dual Reclining Sofa from Badcock Furniture in Zephyrhills Florida. In less than a year the one end began to sag and the back would not stay totally upright when not in use. I called Badcock and they sent two men to my home to check out this problem. I was told by these two that the framing was split and was clearly a manufacturing defect and the sofa would need to be replaced. After nothing being done I again called and was told that the two men that THEY sent were not qualified to make this determination. (So why did they send them in the first place.) Stalling I guess.

After sending another person to my home again (I'm not sure but I think this was either the store owner or Service manager), It was determined that they were ordering a new end section for my sofa. Now comes the arrival and installation of this new section. It Does not match in fullness, color or firmness obviously because it is newer than the rest of the Sofa and stands out like a sore thumb!!! I had also paid the extra $69.80 when I purchased my sofa for FPFAB which is Furniture Protection Fabric (Life of the South)... The new section does not have this.

I called Badcock to let them that this was not acceptable and was clearly told in a very rude manner that Badcock Furniture would do nothing more for me. I could understand If this sofa were abused in any way but it has not been. I am a 4' 7" lady weighing under 125 pounds and live alone. It is clearly very poor quality and even worse service from these people.

I will be contacting the BBB, News Media and an Attorney if necessary... I'm tired of these companies taking advantage of their customers. At this point I will settle for nothing less than a replacement no matter who I have to contact or how much it costs. THIS IS 100% WRONG.

Terrible Service Piece of Crap Store Manager

CENTERPOINT, ALABAMA -- I went to the store in Centerpoint Alabama and order furniture for my newly built house. The associate started off not really into helping but soon she change and was helpful. We order furniture and told them the address of where we want it delivered. They took the furniture to the wrong address. After arriving the delivery guy had the worst attitude and was a bit hostile towards my sister in law. I didn't find out about it until they was gone what happen.

After that we went back right before Christmas and that's when the real crap begin. We dealt with the store manager name is Norman a fat lazy piece of crap! Didn't want to help us at all. We order two lamps and a console table. We receive the lamps. One was defective. We was told the table will arrive after Christmas which was fine so we waited and two days after Christmas I went to trade in the lamp and find out about the table. Well the lady gave me a display and told me the table is on its way that evening.

It got late and I call to find out what was going on and the lady answer said she don't know. Let her call. She call. They went to the wrong address again and said they come tomorrow so I call spoke with Norman. He tell me no my table not coming until next Thursday and that he don't know why they said it but no one coming so I went into the store to cancel and return the lamp. Told him either I get brand new or you can have them both back. He got a attitude and said, "Fine it be next week for the lamp."

After it came I had to call again to see if it arrive because he refuse to call me. So I pick up the lamp and got home, open box and no light bulbs that suppose to come with the lamps. Keep in mind the light bulbs cost $14 each so I ask for the bulbs. He said, "I'm not ordering just bulbs" and I can just come get displays. I told him hell no.

I called corporate and they gonna tell me they going to request them to order the bulb and go back into the store to pick them up even though I told them how things went down, and I didn't put everything in this but the bottom line is corporate refuse to help and deescalate the situation. They want me to go back into a hostile environment and go to jail for kicking his fat **! Don't buy anything from this store. I am taking my business elsewhere. They won't get a dime of my money again!

CAPE CORAL, FLORIDA -- My husband and I applied for credit and purchased a dining room table and bedroom set. Was to be delivered the following Saturday. We stopped in the Friday before to purchase a couch and was told our original purchased furniture would need to come off the truck that evening as we hadn't made a payment, and all is required to come at the same time. We re-scheduled all to be delivered three weeks later as that was the only Saturday that was next available. New house, no furniture. Two days prior we received an email confirming delivery for Friday. Called to speak with our sales representative who said we agreed on Friday. We would never had agreed to Friday as my husband and I both work. She explained there was no deliveries scheduled for Saturday as the delivery guy had off. Next Saturday delivery would be two more weeks. Frustrated I called back the next day to speak with a manager. She asked time I could be available Friday and we set time for after 5pm. And our sales representative couldn't go the extra mile and do that! After the furniture was delivered, we received an email to confirm our first payment AND second payment for the month. Our sales representative never informed us we were required to make TWO payments a month. Again, spoke to our sales representative who said she had no idea Snap requires two payment…. VERY MIS-LEADING! She even stated another customer cancelled for the same reason. Customers need to know this as they may not be able to afford two payments. We decided to send all the furniture back and went to Crazy Deals in Fort Myers who has great prices and financing. BADCOCK- very poor customer service, mis-leading info, not knowledgeable and a rip off! Don't waste your time!
