Skin / Botox / Laser Hair Removal Complaint - Life Threatening Infection Due To Procedures From This Salon!!!
NORCO, CALIFORNIA -- On June 4, 2010 I scheduled and appointment at Skin & Beauty Aesthetic Spa for a consultation regarding BOTOX® and laser hair removal. A woman, who I found out on July 13, 2010, was not a Doctor or RN took me into her office. The walls of the office were completely filled with certificates. This woman did not at the time introduce herself to me but took my medical history which indicated to me that she was a licensed medical professional. This woman’s name is Cory, she is the manager and sales person for the Spa, she is NOT a doctor or RN, which until July 13, 2010 she presented her self to be. On July 12, 2010 I was diagnosed by my doctor, with 2 separate infections due to 2 separate procedures preformed by Skin & Beauty Aesthetic Spa . On July 13, 2010 I called and found out that Cory who had been diagnosing me up until July 12 was not a Doctor or RN.
On June 4, 2010 Cory convinced me to buy a BOTOX® package and a laser hair removal package which totaled to $1,675.00. The package deal on the BOTOX® was for 50 units at $9.50 per unit. Cory told me I only needed 25 units of BOTOX® for my first treatment and the rest would be “stored” by Skin & Beauty Aesthetic Spa and I could use it in a few months when the first treatment wore off. The laser hair removal package was for 6 treatments at $200 per treatment, which I received 1 treatment.
On June 4, 2010 I received 25 units of BOTOX® into my forehead and one laser hair removal treatment on my Bikini area. Shortly after the BOTOX® injections my forehead (the only place I received BOTOX® - and I had never had any other procedures on my forehead or face) broke out in about 30-40 puss filled pimples. The pimples were only located on the place (my forehead) where the BOTOX® had been administered. I called Skin and beauty and the manager Cory who has NO medical background, diagnosed it as acne and said “put astringent on it”. After a week of the worst most painful sores on my forehead I went to the salon to seek help and again Cory (not a DR. or RN) diagnosed it as acne and said use astringent.
With in a week of the breakout of puss filled pimples on my forehead, I starting getting sores on my bikini area where the laser hair removal procedure was performed. I again called Skin and Beauty and spoke to Cory the manager NOT a DR. or RN and she said “it is just irritation it happens all the time, don't worry use cortisone”. I have very poor health insurance. I am only allowed two visits per year and since Cory said it was normal, I decided not seek medical attention as per her advise.
On July 12, 2010 the sores had increased in number and were everywhere the laser had touched my skin. I was in such pain I got an emergency appointment with my doctor. My doctor diagnosed me with an infection on my face due to the BOTOX® and a Staph Infection on my bikini area due to the laser hair removal. I called Skin and Beauty and spoke with Cory this is when she told me she was not a doctor or RN, and they refused to refund my money. Cory said my doctor is wrong, it is acne and irritation, and that the infection she had diagnosed me with had nothing to do with the two procedures they had performed. The only place I have infections on my entire body is my forehead and bikini area, the two places the procedures were performed.
After being diagnosed by my doctor I decided to do some research. I remember that Cory said they would “STORE” the 25 left over units of BOTOX®. I learned through my research that “Each vial of BOTOX® contains 100 Units (U) of Clostridium botulinum type A neurotoxin complex, 0.5 milligrams of Albumin Human, and 0.9 milligrams of sodium chloride in a sterile, vacuum-dried form without a preservative. BOTOX® is supplied in a single use vial. Because the product and diluents do not contain a preservative, once opened and reconstituted, store in a refrigerator and use within four hours. Discard any remaining solution. Do not freeze reconstituted BOTOX®.” http://www.rxlist.com/botox-drug.htm I also learned that “The FDA has announced that after intensive investigations it has determined that Botox injections can lead to infection .” FMLiveWire.com. Dr. Scott Greenberg, who practices in Winter Park, Fla., says "Any Botox I don't use, I just have to throw out. Botox costs approximately $400 per vial which contains 100 units.”So I started to wonder where the 25 unites of BOTOX® came from. Through my research I learned that if they used BOTOX® that was not stored properly it could cause infection. I also learned that if they used a vial of BOTOX® which they had previously used on another client it could cause infection.
The staph infection on my bikini area is a life threatening infection and was definitely caused by the laser hair removal because the only places I have sores was where the laser touched, no where else. A Medical Guide Written by Internationally Recognized Dermatologists agree that “Bacterial Skin Infections due to laser hair removal occur when the superficial skin is injured. Antibiotic treatment may be prescribed” they also said “Scarring may occur and generally follows an infection or superficial skin injury” © 2005 SkinCareGuide.com
Another Health Care website said laser hair removal “Infections only occur when the skin’s epidermis is damaged. Bacteria, viruses and fungi can all cause infection. Antibiotic and antiviral creams should be used after treatment to minimize the risk of getting an infection.” Laser Hair Removal (http://www.laserhairremoval-info.com) says infections caused by laser hair removal can result in “wounds that are to be seen on the dermis after laser hair reduction, infection can be avoided with antibiotic and anti viral materials.” My infection could have been easily managed at an early stage if Cory the manager had not said it is fine use cortisone cream it is just irritation, which is NOT any form of treatment for an infection caused by laser hair removal.
If I had treated both infections the way Cory said I could have died. My doctor had to prescribe 3 medications for me. 2 antibiotics sulfameth/trimethoprim and doxycyline, she also prescribed mirtazapine because my blood pressure and heart rate was out of control. I had not slept in days because the infections were causing me pain and distress. I run my own business and had lost 5 days of work due to these infections. The medications are horrible they make me very nauseous. As for topical treatment I have to pour rubbing alcohol on the sores which burns so bad I cry. I have to do this 4-5 times per day. The sores that have healed are leaving huge scares.
My doctor’s bills, medications, and loss of wages have added up to nearly $3000.00. I wanted to have Botox and laser hair removal because I hated razor burns, and the wrinkle on my forehead really bothered me, now because of Skin and Beauty I can not even wear a bikini because the sores and scares are so embarrassing. Thank you for taking the time to read my complaint.
