Ikea Complaint - Customer service -what service?
We, my husband, 2 year old daughter and my heavily pregnant self, travelled a 5hr round trip to Ikea to buy a specific cupboard. In IKEA we were told that this item needed to be picked up from customer pick up point and was NOT available on the shelf for "self pick-up". We first paid for this item at the till (£100) and queued with our receipt for the cupboard. This item was then given to us, in a flat-packed brown cardboard box with very little identifiers to the content of the box. It was near closing time and staff at IKEA hurried us along out of the shop. At home, of course, we realized the item was NOT the one we had paid for, but a wrong cupboard. No problem we thought, it was IKEAs fault they gave us the wrong item, so surely they will deliver us the right one....NOT! Customer service department were both extremely unhelpful and to top it up, very rude. They informed us bluntly, that we should have checked the item given to us and since we did not do so at the time it was our responsibility to drive back to the shop 5 hr round trip to sort it out. This information was apparently on our receipt. -Yes it was, on the small print that no-one asked us to read at any stage. No one at any stage asked verbally to check the product either. The fact that I am 6 months pregnant and that I have a small child did not matter to IKEA. -In fact they seemed thrilled to hear that the item given to us was of less monetary value than the one we should have got. We have no-other option, but to kiss goodbye to our £100...Many Thanks IKEA!
