Best Buy Informative - Buyer Beware - Blue Ray players
, CALIFORNIA -- Shopping for a blue ray player, I first looked online for the brand I liked in my old DVD player. I picked a Sharp with a specific model number, went to Best Buy, where they did have only ONE Sharp blue ray player to offer, though in that model number. I had looked up the reviews on it, which said for the listed price a cable was included with the blue ray player. Not at Best Buy. The saleswoman told me I would have to buy two cables to go with the player, one for video and one for audio, which added considerably to the listed price. I told her I did not have an HD TV, though I had broadband, etc. Since all online sources had said the player included the cable, and other players do, I thought I'd look elsewhere before buying. [Does Best Buy order merchandise WITHOUT included cable so they can sell it as an extra to make these products work?] I next went to Costco where a nice guy told me that Blue Ray wouldn't even PLAY anything on the screen unless I had an HD TV. He told me I could buy a much cheaper DVD compared to their blue ray players, to work on the TV I have. Clearly not looking to sell me more expensive merchandise that wouldn't work. Why didn't the Best Buy saleswoman tell me that rather than just try to sell me something that couldn't work with a regular TV? Did she think I would return to the store to buy an HD TV at enormous cost to replace my so far perfectly fine TV to go with what she had sold me? Not. A little honesty about their products would be appreciated. Moral: You can't trust Best Buy advice.
Once in the past I bought a TV at Best Buy, supposed per the salesperson to be delivered the next day, to find out it was predicted to be a week for delivery. On the appointed day I waited around till mid-afternoon, then called to confirm delivery that day. A snotty guy insisted it wasn't to be delivered that day according to their computer, which had obviously been changed, as on my print-out sales receipt, the current day was clearly stated. Now it had been altered in their computer to be a three more day wait, without any notice to me--how hard was it to phone me? The guy at Best Buy wouldn't believe me. After that I won't buy any large appliance or TV at Best Buy because their delivery is unbelievably slow and unpredictable. All I'll buy is something I can carry out of the store myself.
