VIRGINIA -- Recently I opened up a checking account with BB & T bank here in va
about five days later my account was scammed and charged 8.42 Bb and t then charge me an overdraft fee of 35.00 But they also said they knew it was a fraudulent charge. My thing is if you know my account was scammed why did you let the charge go through the teller said well when you open an account and give your account number and routing number it automatically gets charge. But I had not funded my account and they told me until my account was funded it wouldn't be active so why would they allow someone to charge my account. Then I got a over draft fee. Then they say well you can dispute it which takes forever.

I was trying to get an online loan and I guess the site wasn't secure because I never gave anyone my information.

This really sucks ass. Iam gonna change to suntrust bank

If the bank won't help go to the police and report the fraud in your account.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to be upset at whomever used your checking account info to charge your account without your authorization?

goduke, No. "But they also said they knew it was a fraudulent charge." This places it squarely on BB&T's back. They KNOWINGLY permitted the fraud. That technically makes them an accessory to the fraud.

I don't think they knowingly allowed it to happen. The automated system probably charged the overdraft fee before they realized it was an unauthorized charge. They should however still remove the OD fee.
