Celebrity Cruises Compliment - Nuts!!!!

I and my girlfriend took a cruise on the Celebrity Solstice on 7-11-10 to 7-18-10.We paid extra for the Aqua class to be able to receive upgraded meals in their specialty restaurant. I have an allergy to nuts and need extreme medical attention if ingested with them. The meals on the ship had an average of near %50 nuts in their entrees which limited my selection. On top of that they included nuts in their recipes in many situations with out listing them. Per example, waiter mentioned to me that the Pesta sauce was made with tree nuts, As a result was forced to eat my meals in the main dining room and relegated to eating only certain types of food. I complained to customer relations and was told that I should of made the cruise line aware of my problem prior to boarding. The waiters on bored tried their best but didn't exactly have a command of the English language. I would never go on another Celebrity Cruise in my life and felt their response to be totally lacking compassion and the customer services agent to be very condescending in her response to my concerns.

If I had such a severe allergy to something, I certainly would make sure the cruise ship was well aware of it while booking, and again before boarding.

The cruise line is right. If you have a severe food allergy, and want them to accomodate it, you have to give them some notice.

In the cruise line's defense: pesto, by definition, is made with nuts. That's like asking for peanut butter and getting upset because there's peanuts in it.

What exactly did you want them to do?

I mean it's not like they can just pop over to a grocery store to replan a meal for you - they have to load the ship up with ingredients BEFORE going underway.

That's why you're suppose to tell them ahead of time - so that they have enough time to bring alternative foods.

Or were you expecting that the entire cruise would be nut-free?

FYI - Airlines also require you to notify them in advance of a nut allergy. Once you are in the air and they have already started handing out nuts is not the best time. With lots of notice they can possibly change the catering.

Also, as jabooty mentioned, pesto is made with nuts everywhere so don't ever eat it.

If your condition is so severe why didn't you take the time to advise them ahead of time. They didn't do anything wrong here. In reality what you're stating is that you'll never take another Celebrity cruise again because you didn't advise them that you would need special treatment.
