Volkswagon Complaint - 2000 Jetta - Hub Caps

Hub Caps - Complaint
Review by nevada slim on 2010-07-22
I had to buy another hub cap, ($63.00), for my Jetta because the center VW emblem came off. It appears that VW only puts a little glue on the emblem. My hub cap is nothing special. It's the 15" stock cap. Should run about $25 to $35. Even Honda sells there stock hub caps for $20. What is so special about VW's caps? I contacted VWoA, about the price, only to get a, "our dealers make up the price based on the region they are in", aka... dealerships are allowed to "milk as much money out of the consumer as possible". This car cost more in parts then it's worth as a full running vehicle. I went to all my local auto wreckers only to find out that most of the hub caps there are missing the center emblems as well... Come on VW. Spend some money on the proper amount of glue to keep this emblem on the hub cap !!!!

Maybe a junk yard will have the emblem. If they do, it will cost less.

You are talking about a 10 year with likely over 100,000 miles. Be thankful it still runs. Once a car hits 100,000 miles or is over 7 years old you can count on huge repair bills so a $63 hub cap is nothing

Just because Honda sells their caps for $20, doesn't mean that Volkswagen has to.

You are correct about the car being worth more in parts than as a running auto. The national body that handles auto theft and insurance has been telling the public this for years. Cars are stolen and taken to a 'chop shop, where they are dismantled for parts. One twist on this is when a car is stolen, stripped of everything they can remove, then the car is dumped somewhere. The recovered car is sold at auction to people looking to 'rebuild a car.' They obtain a junk or rebuilder's title, then put the parts back on and sell the car. Any car is worth more in it's constituent parts than it is as a full, running machine.

Ah, the title of this review made my heart flutter. I still miss my 2000 Jetta. After 10 years, I think it's understandable that something like this would fall off. It's not like it's brand new and the thing popped off. Everything VW is more expensive than other brands.

I looked the price up online and they are about $50 before shipping and handling to order direct, so $63 at the dealership isn't bad. I haven't had any problems with the emblems coming off my 2008 Jetta, but I will definitely keep an eye on them now after reading this.
