Scion / Toyota Complaint - Front Struts leaking at 45,000 miles

Review by pwcfcr on 2010-07-22
LANGHORNE, PENNSYLVANIA -- During a routine servicing with my regular mechanic I was informed that both front struts are leaking and should be replaced.

Since I have never replaced struts on a vehicle under 100,000 miles I am needless to say very disappointed in Scion/Toyota's suspension products.

This vehicle is conservatively driven. Up to this point I have been happy with this vehicle but now I am concerned about the overall safety and reliability of the parts.

I have been informed the replacement parts will have to come from Toyota. :( I am not very comfortable with this. I'll have to replace them again at 90,000 miles?

Unacceptable.

At least if they had failed under the 36,000 mile marker they would have been replaced free of charge.

I would get a second opinion, as I have had mechanics tell me that minor leaking is not always a big issue.

It's only a leaky strut, I would not worry about the overall safety of a car based on that.
